Chapter 6Sona thought that she must be imagining it, then the curtains moved and in the light from the moon she saw that there was a man climbing into her room.
Her heart gave a frightened leap but she was too afraid to scream. Then with an indescribable rapture she knew who her intruder was.
He pulled back the curtains and now she could see the Marquis quite clearly and she gasped for a very different reason.
“How – could you – do such a – thing?” she asked incoherently, knowing that to climb up the wall of The Castle might have resulted in his falling to his death.
“I had to see you,” he muttered quietly.
He reached the side of the bed and lit the candle that stood beside it.
