CHAPTER 31-THE VILLAGE DOWN

Later, his subordinates come to help him to stand up as they already knew the result of this duel, who is the winner.

Towa: “You lose… And don’t forget to keep your promise as what we had agreed together earlier…”

Ko-shin: “I knew... But you will regret it if you do not kill me. This is something that you can’t imagine…”

After saying those things, Ko-shin and his subordinates leave the village. At that time, Towa didn't really bother about what Ko-shin said. After that, the day has come for him to leave since he has another destination to go. So he rented a boat to let the boatman take him across. From the port to his destination was still quite far, so in the middle of the way, he found an inn. He decides to rest there for one night, since it was already late. Then, the next day when he tried to leave the inn as he planned, suddenly he heard some guests talking inside the inn while they were taking a rest.

Guest 1: “Hey, did you guys know something happened in the village across??”

Guest 2: “No… What happened??”

Guest 1: “I heard that the village was burnt to ash last night…”

Guest 2: “What??? Are you sure?? How did you know???”

Guest 3: “Yeah, that’s right… I haven’t heard anything yet…”

Guest 1: “I heard there is a witness, it said an old couple passed by, and saw a boat floating near the port and heard someone calling help. A man lying inside the boat and dying…”

Guest 2: “What?? Really?? So, horrible…”

Guest 1: “I don’t know, but the witness also saw a smoke floating to the sky, it’s come from the village direction… I guess so…”

Guest 3: “Oh, God… Who does that??”

Seems like what the guests talked about earlier in the inn, was true. The man inside the boat had already died and then the constables brought his body away. Then Towa quickly finds a way to get to that village. Finally, there is still a boatman that is willing to take him across without the constables knowing. After reaching that village, it was true. The village was already burnt to ash, and no one alive. He found the dead body of the elder; with half of the body burned out.

Towa: “I’m sorry… If not because of me, meddle with the problem… Then you and the others won't die so tragically…”

Towa was very upset and regretted interfering with the problem. Even though they were oppressed by the bandits, at least they were still alive. Then he buried all the villager’s bodies and swore in front of their graves that he would take revenge for them by crushing all the bandits. They must pay the price for what they did, he said. After that day, he tries to find out those bandits’ nests as he doesn’t know where they are. After some time, he finally got a clue.
