CHAPTER 1-AN OVERTHROWN EMPIRE
A few thousand years ago, the “En-Koku / Yán-Guó (Yan-Empire)” reigned for over 100 years and just 3 generations and now it’s about to collapse. The rebel from internal and external attack from other empires has caused the war to explode. Since the people can’t accept their current ruler, who is “DaisandaiEn-Ō / Dìsāndài-YánWáng (the Third Emperor of Yan)” called by “EnBoku-Ō / YánMù-Wáng(Emperor-YanMu)”, for his tyrannic reigned and high-tax collection, and even high-rank officers that arrogantly bullied their commoners badly. Not to mention, the high-ranking officer corruption that caused the empire to break from the inside. All of that has caused the commoners to be very disappointed in them and even some of them wants to rebel against the emperor as well. And, for honest officers that tried to report those corruption officers, most of them get punishment for their accusation without any proof. The EnBoku-Ō doesn’t care what his high-ranking officers did, as long as they obey and are loyal to him, then he doesn't care what they do. Slowly from there, the EnBoku-Ō got the nickname from his commoners which called him “Enma-DaiŌ / Yánluó-Wáng (King-YanLuo)” or the other means is the “King of Hell”. Then a bunch of people led by one of the medium-rank ministers who is honest and fair, tried to rebel against the emperor with the help from outside as well. This outsider is an empire that is located to the North-east from En-Koku. This empire is called, “Ki-Koku / Xǐ-Guó (Xi-Empire)”. Of course, not only Ki-Koku but also other small neighbor empires come to assist Ki-Koku. So they’re joined together from inside and outside, the rebel incident on that day occurred. Certainly, the En-Koku which ruled over 100 years aren’t that easy to be defeated. No matter what, they're still a big empire and have a strong army to protect the kingdom. So some small rebels would not succeed. Actually, this kind of rebel war was not the first time in En-Koku’s history. The previous rebels that happened did not succeed at all, and ended up all being massacred by the empire army. This is the third time since then. However, this time the rebels with the help from other empires can’t be underestimated as well. Ki-Koku also learned that the previous rebel has come back with empty hands so they must not do the same mistake either. In secret, Ki-Koku recruited some martial arts practitioners from the pugilistic world to help them. Among them, there is one young man who has great martial arts that is quite famous and recognized by the pugilistic world. He has no name, a mercenary. People called him,”Hitokiri-Kenshi / Shāshǒu-Jiànshì (Assassin-Swordsman) or Mumei-Kenshi / Wúmíng-Jiànshì (NoName-Swordsman)” as he has no name. The rumor said as long as the person who wants to hire him can pay the price that he asked for, then he would kill anybody they want him to do. Not only that, as he is also quite formidable so no one dares to mess with him. So anyone that needs for his service, can looking for him by the name Mumei-Kenshi. Actually he has a name called, “Kōgo (Gāng-Wú)” and this name was given by his “Shishō (Master)” later when his Shishō adopted him. Before we start to tell the story about Kōgo how he became a Hitokiri Kenshi/Mumei-Kenshi, let's tell a little story about him from the start. Kōgo was an orphan when his Shishō found him on the street to become a beggar in a small town. At that time, he didn't have a name. More precisely, it’s because he was scared to death when he saw his parents dead. Since then he was shocked to fool and doesn’t want to speak and even forgot what his name is. It’s kind of like a memory trauma. It turns out, his parents were the victims of the war. They were killed when the other small empire came to raid his town, and all the people in the town were massacred. Only some children were left alive when most of the parents hid their children away, including Kōgo parents who hid him away as well. His town belonged to En-Koku, but the empire didn’t send any army to help that town as the empire thought it was a small town and not important at all for the empire, not to mention the town was also located quite far from the Imperial city. So after those high-ranking ministers with their emperor discussed it, they finally decided to abandon that town. So it’s fine to be seized by their enemy since the town did not produce any advantages for the empire either. In just half a day, all the commoners in that town are gone. Those children that were left alive by their parents some are dead because they can't survive as they were very young at that time.
