Kayla’s POV

            Five years of hard work led me to where I’m standing today. I searched the crowd for familiar faces and easily spotted Finn, Leyton and my sister-in-law, Reena. A warm fuzzy feeling washed over me as I received my graduation certificate, knowing that my loved ones were cheering me on below stage. Like an over-excited parent, Leyton ran to the front of the stage to snap a photo of me, making me turn bright red in embarrassment. I was proud of my achievements but not so proud that I wanted to be the center of attention. Even now, it felt strange to me to have so many eyes on me all the time. I quickly cleared my thoughts as I saw my family make their way towards me.  

            “I’m so proud of you, little Kay!” gushed Leyton as he pulled me in for a hug. “Argh, don’t call me that in front of so many people, Leyton! I’m not little anymore,” I grimaced as everyone laughed. “Don’t mind him, Kayla. Leyton has been so excited about this moment since forever! This morning, he must have taken at least an hour just to pick out what to wear,” said Reena as she looked at Leyton teasingly. My brother blushed as his mate outed him and Finn took the chance to scoop me into his arms. “So proud of my little doctor,” he said as he cupped my face and locked lips with me.

            Tiny sparks of pleasure flowed through my veins as I sighed contently into my mate’s mouth. Thankfully, Leyton cleared his throat, snapping us both out of our own world before we got carried away. Claron giggled as he let go of his mother’s hand to grab mine. “Congratulations, Aunty Kayla! I smiled at my three-year-old nephew and hugged him before giving his hand back to Reena. After taking a few photos with my classmates, we left the campus and headed back to our pack.

            On the way home, Reena asked when I’d like to begin my residency at our pack hospital, where she was the chief doctor. It was a great question and honestly, I haven’t started to think about it. On the one hand, I’d really like to take a break to recharge. It hasn’t been easy fulfilling my Luna duties and attending medical school in the last five years. Moreover, I really wanted to start a family with Finn. He’s already 26 and mated but still without a pup. That’s almost unheard of for our kind and I’m not going to lie that I haven’t felt any pressure to give him a pup in the past few years, even though he had insisted that there was no rush and we should wait until I’ve fulfilled my dream of becoming a doctor. Given the rigor of a residency, I’m very sure that I won’t be able to do it, start a family and be a Luna to my pack all at the same time. Sensing my frustration, Finn squeezed my hand gently and assured me, “there’s still time, Kayla, don’t overthink it.” Reena nodded in agreement and reassured me that she was just asking, and the hospital would always be waiting for me.

It was an unbelievably beautiful sight as my favourite daisies filled the room and the soft rays of the sun poured in through the french windows.
