Finn’s POV

            My heart froze as Kayla mentioned starting a family and I tightened my arms around her, afraid that she would disappear if I didn’t hold her close enough to me. When we brought Kayla back over five years ago from the Moon Lake Pack, she was badly hurt and despite her many powers, she healed slower than normal wolves. It took her a week to finally wake up from her coma and by then most of her wounds had healed, or at least it seemed that way. Other than the doctor who treated her, who we discovered later to be Leyton’s mate, Reena, myself and Leyton, no one knew of the extent of Kayla’s injuries. The scars from the witch’s fire whips left visible scars on her body but what we didn’t have the heart to tell Kayla was that the mutt Alpha had scarred her womb when his wolf r***d her. It took almost a month before the bleeding finally stopped completely and we had assured Kayla that it meant that it had healed.

            It was not possible for Kayla to bear a pup ever again and I knew that it would kill her if she ever learns the truth. “What’s wrong, Finn? You’re so.. guarded.” Kayla’s question snapped me out of my thoughts and I quickly cleared my mind while letting my guard down again. Even though Kayla and I don’t read each other's thoughts other than when one of us actively pushes thoughts or images to the other, I always felt the need to be extra guarded to prevent Kayla from ever finding out the truth from my thoughts. To not raise any suspicions, I quickly dismissed her question with a kiss and one thing led to another as I lifted Kayla to sit on my hardened c**k. My wolf growled as I swiftly made my way through the crowd to my mate. I put my hand on Kayla’s waist and pulled her gently but firmly to my side, as I glared warningly at the male wolf. “This is Thiago from the Black Mountain Pack. He’s a TA in some of my classes.” Kayla explained quickly as she rubbed my back to calm me down. “Nice to meet you, Alpha Finn. I’ve heard a lot about you,” Thiago said as he extended his hand to me. Not wanting to overreact and ruin Kayla’s party, I shook his hand and then proceeded to excuse us to greet the other guests. Kayla might not have noticed it, but my wolf and I recognized the look in Thiago’s eyes when he looked at Kayla and we didn’t like it.

            The rest of the night was filled with dancing, good food and great company, as we caught up with our friends from our allied packs. That was until an unexpected guest showed up. “Hi Finn! Look at you, big bad Alpha! I haven’t seen you for ages,” shouted Lynsie happily as she ran over to hug me and planted a kiss on my cheek. Too shocked to react, it took me a second to peel her arms off me but it was too late. My mate already had her claws out and was ready to pounce. “Get your paws off my mate!” she growled as she dashed towards us. I stopped Kayla in her tracks with an embrace and did my best to soothe her. “Calm down, Baby, she’s just an old friend. We’ve known each other since we were 10 in training school for pack leaders. It’s just an old habit from our childhood, I won’t let it happen again, promise!”

            I felt Kayla relax in my arms but the next thing I knew, she had turned red as a tomato as she realized that everyone was staring at us. A booming laugh filled the air and I turned around to see Leyton give Lynsie a friendly slap on the back. “Gee Lynsie, what happened to you? Your hair is so long now and I thought you said you’d rather die than put on a dress? Don’t mind Kayla, she’s my little sister and our Luna,” Leyton explained and his lips curled in pride as he introduced Kayla. Luckily, the short interruption from Leyton broke the awkward moment and the party mood was back on as I properly introduced Kayla and Lynsie to each other.
