Chapter 6: A New Identity

1152 Words
When that man said that, I just realized that all of the time I don't even think about my name until now. As I was constantly put in a somewhat dangerous situation thus making I unable to have the time to recall my past.  “So do I really need a new name?”  “Only if you can remember what’s your previous name then you don’t need a new one, but like most of the people here… no one here will be able to remember their own name.”  “I suppose you’re right, I don’t remember anything…” I started to think about what name that I like. It would be great if I could somehow remember my own name as I wouldn’t be needing to create a new name for myself.  It took me a couple of minutes just to settle up a name. Now my name is Eion… don’t know why I choose that name but I simply like how it sounds.  The man then asked me, “Have you decided what your name is then?”  “It’s Eion.”  “Eion… that’s a strange name but that’s fine. I should introduce myself as well, I’m called Eilbert.”  “Thanks for letting me know everything, Eilbert, without your help… I’m sure that I will be still wondering what exactly had happened to me and of course this weird place.”  “This was what I liked to do, helping people out but I’m going to say that you’re far different from the rest of the people that I had met.”  “What do you mean?”  “When people know what actually happened to them, either they will be afraid or try to kill me. But yet you’re very calm Eion.”  “You’re right Eilbert…” Eilbert was right, I am indeed very calm. Despite hearing all of this horrible stuff, I am still able to keep my composure. It’s weird to even for me but I think in my previous life, I was used to this kind of situation and that’s why I could handle it just fine.  That somehow makes me wonder what kind of life I went through when I was still alive. I bet I have a tough life and a very dangerous lifestyle. Because I realize something as well when I think about this stuff.  Every time I encounter monsters, I just don’t simply run away like a coward. I will try to fight them first and know that I’m going to lose. Just at the moment, I will think about how to escape from that situation.  It’s like I am used to fighting something but just can’t remember what. Maybe even if my memory of the past was gone, my body would still react the same way when I was still alive.  “So where would you be going next as I don’t expect you to stay here for that long…” Eilbart says.  “I still had no idea where I should go but I do have something on my mind.”  This thing had been on my mind this entire time, to live in this tower. I must learn the skill to survive and I don’t think that I could do it.  And listening to all Eilbart stories and seeing how good he was at using a bow. I realize that I need to learn from him. As that’s the only way for me to be able to defend myself and kill monsters to live.  “Oh!.. and what’s that? If you don’t mind me asking.” “Actually I wanted to learn from you, you’re more knowledgeable on this place and I still think that there’s a lot that I need to know.” I then paused for a bit as I pointed to the bow, “Besides I wanted to learn using a bow… as I know it would help me.”  “I see, you wanted to train here…” Eilbart smiles, “No problem at all, I will train you and give you everything that I know of… it would be quite sad to see someone like you dead.”  “Thank Eilbart, I don’t know how I can repay you.”  “There’s no need for that, the only thing that I want to see is you to keep on living...” Suddenly he gave me a serious look and the tone of his voice changed as he said, “But if you somehow tried to use the skill to kill me, know that it would end badly in your end.” After Eilbart said that, he simply laughs  Well, I guess Eilbart could get serious if he wanted to. But I guess he had experienced that kind of event before, if not he wouldn’t say that at all. I guess all of the people that had done that were trying to prolong their own time but in the end, Eilbart time was the one that got extended instead.  So with that, I realize that Eilbart wasn’t someone that I should be messing with, it’s better to be friends.  “Don’t you worry, I am not that person that will betray someone that helps me… beside I owe you my life.”  “Well then, let’s rest for today and tell me your story.”  “What story? I thought we can’t remember anything from our past.”  “I don't mean when you're alive, I want to know how you enter this forest… The story of how you ended up here.”  With that, I begin to tell everything to Eilbart as he seems to be a trustable guy. Besides there’s nothing he would gain from listening to my story, it doesn't contain any interest at all. Just a plain story.  As I was telling him the first time I was here and mentioned the dark clothes man. Eilbart's expression changed and I realized that he somehow knew that guy.  Eilbart then began to ask me a lot of questions about the dark clothes man. About what he was doing there and where he was right now. But I simply said to Eilbart that I don't know about that at all.  “...he simply vanished, leaving me at that place. Why are you so eager to know about him, do you know him?”
