Chapter 7: Times Is Important

1124 Words
Eilbart then says, “I don’t know him but that particular guy was quite well known in this tower, from what I heard… he was a dangerous man and would kill anybody just to extend his own time.”  “Really!? But why would he spared me then… shouldn’t that guy be taking my life as I do have 10 years.”  “That I have no idea at all, maybe he had some sort of hidden intention.”  Did I begin to wonder about myself now, why? He clearly had the chance to do so but somehow let me live, and also warned me about the danger that was inside that place. I thought that person was a nice guy and just trying to defend himself but after listening to the Eilbart story about him.  I can’t believe that the black clothes man was actually someone dangerous that would kill anyone.  “Do you know what he was doing at the ruins below?”  “Sorry, I don’t know either… as I said earlier, what I could be sure of was there’s a group of people who tried to attack him.”  “That group of people must be an i***t to attempt that, they should have known that the guy that they are trying to kill was impossible to defeat.” “Is that man really that powerful?”  “From what I heard, he’s pretty untouchable… he could even kill a highly powerful monster on his own but I think everyone knows the reason why he was so strong.”  “Why?” I asked as I clearly didn't know that man's secret.  “Oh! I forgot that you’re new here… Listen, this is kinda important, you know the times that we had been given.”  “Yes? And what about it?”  “The time was extremely important not just because it could extend our living time but it also could make someone stronger.”  “So you’re saying that if someone had more time, that would mean that person also became much stronger?”  “That’s right, that’s why people really wanted to get more time for themselves. To become more powerful and live longer…”  I never thought that time in this tower had another use, all of this time I just think of it as a time limit for people staying in the tower. Didn’t even think that it could also boost someone's strength at all.  Maybe that’s why Eilbart was able to easily defeat the monster that he just killed before. It was because Eilbart himself had a lot of time… I wonder how much he had?  But I shouldn’t concern myself with that. What most important right now was for me to get myself stronger, if not I could survive in this tower at all. Because I had realized something with everything that Eilbart had told me.  In this tower, killing people just to get their time was something that people do. Thus there’s a lot of powerful people in this place that obviously could kill me easily. Without any training and just these 10 years, I couldn’t beat them if I was somehow getting attacked.  That’s why I needed to train and probably hunt down the monsters that had plenty of time. As I refuse to kill people… even though that would be far easier than killing monsters.  “Is there any monster here that gives a lot of time?” I ask Eilbart.  “I see, it seems like you’re determined to get stronger than… but at your level right now, you can’t defeat the most powerful beast in the area.”  “Tell me more about the beast you mention…”  “I will tell you but I think it’s time for us to head to sleep, you would be starting your training tomorrow.”  With that, Eilbart gets up from his chairs and before he heads up to his room. He told me to use the room next to his. After that, he entered his room.  I had nothing else to do so I entered my own room as well. The moment when I entered the room, it was the cleanest room ever. It has a lot of dust inside but I guess I should understand the Eilbart situation.  In this tower, who has the time to clean a place. Most people would think of how to survive, also constantly killing monsters or people to just prolong their existence in this tower.  “Well, at least the bed seems clean…”  As I lie in the bed, I stare at the wooden ceiling above me. I still can’t believe that I had died already, it was almost like a dream and I wish it was. As I would open my eyes and wake up in the world that I was in, as a living human.  But if this was real, I guess there’s no other choice but to live with it. The best that I could do was to not die in this tower. As there are many things that I needed to learn… because I believe that one day I could somehow regain my memory back. Don’t know when but it will happen if I keep on living.  … I slowly closed my eyes as I fell asleep.  …. ….. “Hey!...”  I hear a sound as someone keeps on poking me on the arm. I opened my eyes to see what it was Eilbart doing.  “What is it?”  “Waking you up, let’s start our training…”  “Isn't it a little too early, it was still dark outside?”  “It might but it was the best time to train you, as there would be some pretty weak monsters right now and I wanted to see what you're lacking. If not, how could I possibly train you to be better.”  As sleepy as I am still at the moment, I had no choice but to force myself to wake up. As I do want to get better at fighting…  Eilbart then smiled. “That’s good, here take these clothes… it would be pretty cold and you need to cover yourself, I would be waiting outside.”  He tossed me a white shirt as he walked out of my room.
