Chapter 4: The Beast Hunter

1085 Words
No way I am going to fight that monstrous bird at all, better to just step away from this place quietly. The monster still didn't notice me so I still had a chance to escape.  As it was still eating the corpse of the animal that was on the ground.  Doesn’t want to make a stupid mistake like last time, this time I will make sure that I making zero sound as I step out of this place. While walking away, I look on the ground just to make sure that there’s no small twig or anything that potentially could make any noises.  *Bam!*  I hit a tree, I was so focused on the ground that I didn’t realize I was walking towards the tree…  *Caw!* *Caw!*  Once again, I know I was in trouble.  The monster turns its head toward my direction, I quickly hide behind a tree to avoid being seen by it. Trying to run away right now was a bad idea as it will just make a loud noise and easily detectable.  Hoping that the monster would just ignore me and resume eating the animal corpse.I hope so- The sounds of footsteps are getting louder towards me.  Is the monster heading towards me? Should I run away right now…  But looking at the monster's four legs, I think it would make it really fast. I doubt that I can outrun it as the monster would easily be able to catch up with me.  Holding my sword tightly, I prepared to attack the monster if it suddenly popped its head to look behind the tree that I was hiding. All I had was just one attack, if it fails… there’s a high chance that I will be dead.  As there’s no way I could survive this once again, my luck might have run out as it has been used in the Gargoyle situation.  *Tak…*  Hearing that sound getting louder made me feel very uneasy… Then the sound was completely gone.  It kinda made me wonder what had happened, I then took a peak and the monster was not there anymore. I feel a little bit strange as there’s no way that large monster suddenly disappeared from here.  There’s no-  *Caaaawwwwwwwwww!*  “What the fu*k!”  The monster suddenly appeared in front of me and immediately tried to attack me with its sharp beak. Luckily enough, I was able to avoid its beak from hitting me but because of that, I had fallen to the ground.  I was in the worst possible situation right now… there was no choice back then as I would be hit and the only way to avoid it was for me to hit the ground.  There’s no way of escaping this monster, I doubt that I could attack it with my sword.  Accepting my death yet again, I closed my eyes as I was just swinging my sword around. Hoping that it would somehow scare off the monster and if not, that will be the end of me.  *Thok*  A few seconds later another sound can be heard…  *Thud* That sound-  I open my eyes to see that the monster was already lying on the ground, I touch it with my swords and it doesn’t even move anymore.  Does that mean the monster already dead? But how… there is no way that this monster could suddenly die just like-  When I was thinking, I then saw it.  There’s an arrow on the monster's head and that explains the sound that I heard earlier before.  Seeing this made me realize something.  If there’s an arrow, that means there must be someone around here that shoots it. There’s no way the arrow would come out of nowhere…  With that, I began to look around the area but I decided it’s better for me to stay in this place. As I think the one who killed the monster probably is going to be here to collect the monster parts or to retrieve the arrow.  … …. ….. And just as I thought, there’s a person coming towards this place right now. As I could see a silhouette of a person in a distance.  I need to thank him for saving me even if that person doesn’t intend to do that…  When the person finally arrived, I immediately approached him but he then aimed his bow at me. Making me a little bit worried that he will shoot at me.  “Who’re you!?” The man said.  “I wish I could answer that question as well, I don’t know. I had lost all of my memories.”  The man looked at me as he then put his bow back, as he then said. “So you’re new here in the tower, you’re quite lucky to be able to survive as many would not…”  “What do you mean?”  “Let’s not talk here as I know you have a lot of questions right now. Just follow me as I will lead you to a safe place but before that please wait a while as I take this monster's life.”  The man then takes out a dagger and when I take a glance at it. I realized that it was the same dagger as the man that helped me in the ruins before. Is this a coincidence or he was the same man?  He then stabs the monster with that dagger and the monster disappears into the thin air. Does a monster simply vanish like that? I thought the dead body would just simply decay. I guess there’s a lot of things that I don’t know yet.  “Okay it’s done, let's head back to my hut now.”  “Sure, just lead the way…”  With that, I follow the man back to his hut. It was quite a long walk from here as it took us a few hours to arrive at his place. I expected that there would be other people besides him but it seems like this man was living alone.  That will not matter as I could finally have my question answered…
