Someone knocked at the door. "Check who's at the door," Anita's mum said as she was coming down the stairs. But it seemed Anita didn't hear what her mum said because she had her headphones on, listening to loud music as usual.
"Anita!" she yelled, and this time she was already furious. "Anita! Anita!" She kept calling her name while she climbed down the stairs and moved towards where Anita was sitting. She tapped her back from behind and signaled her to remove the headphones from her ear.
"Yes, Mum, any problem?" Anita asked.
"Are you asking me if there's any problem? Do you know how long I've been shouting your name to check who was at the door?" she asked, looking at her like she was going to scold her, placing her hands on her waist.
"Oh..." She quickly interrupted her before Anita could say anything. "Oh, what? Could you quickly leave this place now and check who's at the door?" she ordered.
Anita, who was as confused as anyone could be, didn't know where to pass but was at the same time signaling her mum to leave the way so she could pass. But her mum stood firm, opening her mouth in confusion at the way she was behaving because she knew that was not the only way for her to pass to check who was at the door.
"What's wrong with this girl? Oh God!" she said, still looking confused about how she just behaved.
Anita walked quickly towards the door as the doorbell rang. She got to the door, stood for some seconds, and took a quick breath. Again, the doorbell rang, so she quickly opened the door to check who was at the door.
"Who is that, Anita?" her mum asked.
She didn't answer the question because she had started questioning the person at the door. "Who are you?" Anita asked, looking at the young man who was standing at the door.
"I am..." She interrupted him immediately. "I don't want to know. What are you here for, please? And who are you looking for?" She asked him a lot of questions that couldn't seem to be answered at a time, even if he intended to get an answer to her questions.
"Anita, who is that?" her mum asked as she was a few steps approaching the door.
"Mum..." "Oh, Kelvin, sorry for keeping you waiting for this long," her mum said, apologizing to the young man who stood outside, whose name was Kelvin.
"Young lady, can you go in now?" she requested.
Anita quickly left her mum as she requested her to do so. After Anita had left, she went outside the house and closed the door, and she stood in front of the door with the young man.
"Like I said earlier, I am so sorry for keeping you waiting for this long. Please accept my apology," she said with both hands pleading with him to accept her apology.
"It's fine, ma'am. I have no issue with it at all," he said, smiling.
"That's good, okay... so let's talk about what you're here for. Please kindly follow me to the car park, so we may have our discussion over there. You know I don't want my daughter to hear what we're discussing, so can we go?" She said, leading him to the car park.
They both got to the car park and sat down on the chair which was at the car park, and they were set for the discussion they came there for. The young man was holding a file bag that contained paper documents. As they sat and were set for the discussion, he placed the file bag on his lap and opened it, bringing out a piece of paper documents.
"This is the paper document for your car you intend to sell," he said, handing the documents to her.
She collected the documents from his hands. "Now the documents are ready. Have you found a buyer yet?" she asked him, looking at him for a response.
"Not yet, ma'am. I am still searching for the buyer, but when I see a buyer, I will inform you." He responded to her questions, assuring her that he would find a buyer for her car soon.
"Uhm! That's okay. Please let me know when you find a buyer," she requested politely and placed her head down in disappointment like she was trying to get over what was bothering her on hearing what the young man said.
"That's not a problem, ma'am. I sure will let you know when I find a buyer," he said to her.
They both stood up together as they ended the conversation. "I think I will have to go now," the young man said as he was pointing at the gate.
She took a breath in and out as a practice of relief. "Okay, young man, that would be fine. I hope to hear from you soonβ She smiled like she was being forced to.
Oh God! She exclaimed while she sat down on a chair. Her facial expressions gave the impression of being worried about something that was going on in her mind.
She placed her head down, looking in no particular direction, and she kept nodding her head from right to left, then she slowly raised her head and looked straight ahead, when she noticed that her daughter - Anita was coming towards where she was sitting. She tried to put herself together and behave like she was fine as she began smiling.
βMum, what is the problem? Why was your face like that? Anita, who had noticed that her mum didn't seem fine, asked in curiosity.
βHmmβ¦ uhmβ, She began to stammer then she touched Anita's hand softly, looked up at her face, and smiled at her. βDear, it's nothing. I am fine, it was just that I was stressed outβ. She said, assuring Anita.
βHow do you expect me to be convinced by what you are saying? You don't look fineβ She looked at her mum directly into her eyes. She continued, βMum, can you tell me what is going on with you? This time Anita was more concerned about getting a clearer answer to her questions.
Then her mum stood up from the chair she was sitting on and patted Anita's both shoulders, smiling and looking at Anita for minutes without saying anything.
βLike I said darling, I am fineβ. She said.
Anita and her mum shared a strong relationship that they cared so much about each other and would not live with each other. Anita has always considered her mum to be the β, Best Mum In The Entire Universeβ as she would always say.
βMum, you should know by now that I love you so much and I don't like seeing you worried because seeing your worries makes me worried also,β she said, showing affectionate concern for her mum.
Anita and her Mum have been so close ever since her father left and her mum when she was just at her very tender age, which led to a strong bond between the both of them. Her father left her mum over another woman when she was just 1 year old and she didn't have the opportunity to experience a father's love, but her mum had always vowed to shower her with love and care and show her the love of a father and a mother together.
βAll is fine Anitaβ, she smiled even if it was obvious that she was putting on a smile to convince her daughter.
They held their hands and smiled at each other, Anita embraced her mother with an affectionate hug.
βMum, you know that you can always tell me anything going on with you, I am always here for youβ " she said looking into her mum's eyes and smiling. Her mum placed her hands on her chest and looked at her for a long time, and at one point, it almost felt like she was going to shed tears. They held their hands tightly and smiled. It already felt like an emotional moment for the both of them and at that point, it felt like her mum was going to blow out with tears. On noticing it, Anita quickly embraced her mum tightly.
Suddenly, she noticed a drop of tears from her eyes and immediately dried her tears so Anita wouldn't see her crying.
βCome on, let go," Anita said as he walked her mum towards the door. Then her mum said to her, βAnita, I assure you that all will be fineβ She said nodding her head from βyes to yesβ
Anita looked at her mum in a confused manner about what her mum said to her.
