Chapter 2: A Proposal of Convenience
Rory sipped her champagne and gazed out at the endless expanse of turquoise water, feeling a sense of freedom and release that she hadn't experienced in years. The warm sun on her skin and the cool breeze in her hair were just what she needed to wash away the stress and anxiety of the past few months.
As she turned to make her way back to the pool, she collided with a tall, handsome man who was standing at the bar, ordering a drink. Apologetic, Rory steadied herself against the bar, her eyes meeting the stranger's piercing blue gaze.
"I'm so sorry," she said, feeling a flush rise to her cheeks.
The man smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "No harm done," he said, holding out his hand. "I'm Ethan Blackwood."
Rory took his hand, feeling a spark of electricity as their palms touched. "Aurora Wynter," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
As they chatted, Rory learned that Ethan was a successful businessman, on the cruise to celebrate his recent divorce. She couldn't help but feel a pang of solidarity with him, knowing exactly what it was like to have your heart broken into a million pieces.
As the conversation flowed easily, Ethan turned to her with a mischievous glint in his eye. "So, Aurora, I have a proposal for you," he said, his voice low and husky.
Rory's heart skipped a beat as she wondered what he was going to suggest. "What kind of proposal?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan leaned in, his face inches from hers. "I propose that we pretend to be a couple for the rest of the cruise," he said, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
Rory's eyes widened in surprise, but as she thought about it, she realized that it wasn't a bad idea. After all, it would be nice to have a fake partner to deflect the attention of the other passengers, and who knows, maybe even have a little fun.
"What's in it for me?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Ethan grinned. "Well, for one, you'll have a handsome and charming partner to escort you to dinner and other events. And two, I'll make sure to keep the other passengers from bothering you."
Rory thought about it for a moment, then nodded her head. "Deal," she said, holding out her hand.
Ethan took it, his handshake firm and warm. "Welcome to our fake relationship, Aurora," he said, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
As they sealed their deal with a handshake, Rory couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. What would the rest of the cruise hold for her and her fake partner? Only time would tell.
As they walked away from the bar, Ethan turned to Rory and asked, "So, what do you say we make our fake relationship a little more believable?"
Rory raised an eyebrow. "What did you have in mind?"
Ethan grinned mischievously. "Well, for starters, we could share a table at dinner tonight. And maybe even take a stroll around the deck together."
Rory laughed. "You're really getting into this fake relationship thing, aren't you?"
Ethan chuckled. "Hey, I'm just trying to make it look real. But I have to say, I'm really enjoying your company, Aurora."
Rory felt a flutter in her chest at the way he said her name. "I'm enjoying yours too, Ethan," she replied, trying to sound casual.
As they continued to walk and talk, Rory found herself feeling more and more at ease with Ethan. She couldn't believe how easy it was to talk to him, how much they had in common.
Before she knew it, the sun was setting over the horizon, casting a golden glow over the ship. Ethan turned to her and asked, "Want to grab some dinner?"
Rory nodded, and they made their way to the restaurant. As they sat down at their table, Rory couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. What would the rest of the night hold?
And as they ordered their food and began to eat, Rory realized that she was having the time of her life. She was laughing and joking with Ethan, feeling like she'd known him for years.
As the night wore on, Rory found herself feeling more and more drawn to Ethan. She couldn't believe how much she was enjoying his company, how much she wanted to be around him.
And as they finished their dessert and prepared to leave, Ethan turned to her and asked, "Want to take a walk around the deck with me?"
Rory nodded, and they made their way out onto the deck. The stars were shining brightly overhead, and the sea air was cool and refreshing.
As they walked, Ethan turned to her and asked, "So, Aurora, what do you say we make this fake relationship a little more real?"
Rory's heart skipped a beat as she looked up at him. "What do you mean?" she asked, trying to sound casual.
Ethan smiled, his eyes glinting in the moonlight. "I mean, what if we took this fake relationship to the next level? What if we made it real?"
Rory's heart was racing as she looked up at him. She couldn't believe what he was suggesting.
And as she hesitated, unsure of what to say, Ethan leaned in and kissed her.
Rory's world went spinning as she felt his lips on hers. She couldn't believe what was happening.
But as she kissed him back, she realized that she didn't want it to stop. She wanted to keep kissing him, to see where this fake relationship might lead.
And as they stood there on the deck, wrapped in each other's arms, Rory knew that she was in trouble. She was falling for Ethan, hard.
But was it real? Or was it just part of their fake relationship?
Only time would tell.
As they stood there on the deck, wrapped in each other's arms, Rory felt like she was melting into Ethan's kiss. It was like the whole world had come to a standstill, and all that mattered was the two of them.
But as the kiss deepened, Rory's mind started to wander. Was this real? Or was it just part of their fake relationship?
She pushed the thoughts aside and let herself get lost in the moment. Ethan's lips were soft and gentle, and his arms were strong and comforting.
As they pulled away from each other, Rory felt a little dizzy. Ethan smiled and took her hand, leading her to the railing of the ship.
They stood there in silence, looking out at the ocean. The stars were shining brightly above, and the waves were crashing against the ship's hull.
Rory felt a sense of peace wash over her. She had never felt this way before, like she was exactly where she was meant to be.
Ethan turned to her and smiled. "I'm really glad we did this," he said, his voice low and husky.
Rory's heart skipped a beat. "Did what?" she asked, trying to sound casual.
Ethan's eyes sparkled with mischief. "You know exactly what I'm talking about," he said, his voice dripping with innuendo.
Rory's cheeks flushed with heat. She knew exactly what he was talking about, and she couldn't help but feel a little excited.
As they stood there, looking out at the ocean, Rory realized that she was in trouble. She was falling for Ethan, hard.
And she had no idea if he felt the same way.
As the night wore on, Rory found herself feeling more and more at ease with Ethan. They talked and laughed, sharing stories and getting to know each other better.
Rory was surprised by how much she enjoyed Ethan's company. He was charming and witty, and he had a way of making her feel like she was the only person in the world.
As the evening drew to a close, Ethan walked Rory back to her cabin. They stood outside the door, lingering in the hallway.
"Thanks for tonight," Rory said, smiling up at Ethan. "I had a really great time."
Ethan smiled back, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I had a great time too," he said. "Would you like to do it again tomorrow night?"
Rory's heart skipped a beat. She hadn't expected Ethan to ask her out again, but she couldn't deny the spark of excitement she felt at the prospect.
"I'd love to," she said, trying to sound casual.
Ethan grinned, his eyes sparkling with triumph. "Great," he said. "I'll pick you up at 7."
Rory nodded, feeling a little breathless. She watched as Ethan turned and walked away, feeling like she was floating on air.
As she stepped inside her cabin and closed the door behind her, Rory couldn't help but wonder what the rest of the trip had in store for her. She had a feeling that this was just the beginning of a wild and unpredictable adventure.
And as she drifted off to sleep, Rory couldn't help but smile. She had a feeling that this trip was going to be one to remember.
