Sealing Fate

(Marcus P.O.V.) I left the dinning hall with the guards without making a scene I knew that would make things worse. As it was things were not going the way I needed them to. This was beyond humiliating, the servants in the dinning hall were snickering. I knew I would be the object of talk in the castle. I knew going to dinner was a mistake, but I had no way out. None of this would have happened if it had that Vampire lord had not insisted that he come in person to see the slaves. I wanted so badly to make him pay, however I was not here for him. The walk back to my quarters was silence, when we arrived the guards opened the doors I entered, and they shut the door. I stood there in the common area for a moment, I had to think, I needed to plan out my next move carefully. I was a Vampire Hunter, I had a reputation, otherwise I would not have this contract. I knew that, I had also never failed in the last 15 years, I did not plan on starting now. Dealing with two Vampires was almost impossible, dealing with one doable. All I had to do was get the visiting Lord to leave so that I could finish my contract, but how? I started to pace the common area, in the process of the pacing I took off my outer robes. This would not be easy, especially now with me confined to my quarters. Then it hit me, I knew exactly what to do, I laughed to myself, it was so simple. Sometimes I swear that we make things harder than they need to be. This job maybe an example of this, but being confined may have been a God sent. I walked through the common area and went to my personal office, I opened the door as I entered I saw the Quartermaster was waiting. He sat facing the door, we had been Hunter partners as far as I could remember. We both had a hatred of Vampires that the other understood. No matter how difficult the job we always got it done. This job had been a headache from the beginning. We had to win the trust of The Master, it was the only way to get close enough to kill him. I walked in and sat down at my desk, I looked him and sighed then I said: “Well, things certainly taken a turn for the worse. But I have a way to get this done.” “How’s that?” the Quartermaster asked. He seemed unfazed by what was going on. “I’m confined to quarters, however the Vampire guest wants Kataya. I know a Dragon that will pay handsomely for her. That will cause him to leave. Then we can make our move on The Master, he will be doing an investigation into my activities, so he will not be on the fourth floor solely.” I answered. “We could just take both of them.” said The Quartermaster. “No Erik, that’s not an option. This Vampire Lord is Aiden O’Flynne. The meanest, most cruel Vampire this side of the Highland mountains. I’ve seen his sped, it is insane. Add that with his blood lust. No that is not an option. Our contract is for The Master not O’Flynne. It is to big a risk.” I said. “I heard he was changed by the High Order.” said Erik. “Do you really believe that the High Order would bother to ‘fix’ a blood sucker. There all the same, they kill thoughtlessly, and crave power.” I said “You never know, hes been here for what, two months, and hes been controlled, even pleasant. That does not add up unless something has happened.” Erik said this with a raised eyebrow. I knew that was his way of questioning my choice. “True. But we both know that Vampires will change enough to please people around them. Either way I want him far from here we have a contract for The Master not O’Flynne.” I said. “Very well. I can have a trustworthy messenger ready to deliver the message to the Dragon. I just need a location.” said Erik. “Alright. I will have the letter ready by morning. This cannot be found out by anyone. Do you understand?” I said. “Yes. I do, no one will know anything is going on. You have my word.” said Erik. In all the years we had fought together he never let me down, i knew this would not be any different. I knew he was more comfortable in the shadows, no one would know that we were still working to get this done. “I’ll be back in the morning as soon as I can, I will be under great scrutiny from The Master. But I will be here.” he said this as he got up and walked over to the back wall of the office. He pulled a hidden lever that was in some of the molding a door opened and he left. There was no trace of his presence. I sat there alone at my desk, I just stared at the desk top. I knew Erik could handle himself, but this situation scared the s**t out of me. I however had a job to do, and I’ll be damned if I let this hiccup stop me. I reached into the draw next to me and pulled out my paper. I got a single sheet out, I knew Vampire sight could see the impression of writing on the sheet under it. I then got out my writing board, I had used this board for so many years it was impossible to read what had been written recently on it. I smiled to myself this plan was fool proof.   I began writing a letter to the Dragon of Larthen I knew it would take me all night to get the wording right. This letter had to be perfect to unsure that Kataya would be purchased. With O’Flynne gone then we could finish our job. As I began the letter the hours slipped by before I realized it was dawn.
