(Aiden O’Flynne’s P.O.V.)
The Quartermaster had turned and left taking the guards with him one stayed at the entrance of the cell block, he had been given the key’s. I looked for somewhere to either put the torch out or away from her cell. It was obvious that the light hurt her. I saw a bucket near by it had what looked to be water in it, I was sure it had been sitting there for quite a while. I plunged the torch into the water to put the fire out, so there was less light in the cell block.
I wanted to talk to her, there was no reason to make her feel uncomfortable in the process. I stopped for a moment, that thought caught me off guard. Why did I care so much for some I knew nothing about? I did not have answer. I turned back towards her cell, I walked over as quietly as I could. She was so still that if I had not seen her heart beat earlier I would have thought she was dead. I guessed that the level of exhaustion as well as the level of pain she was in caused to to pass out for a moment, I stood there and waited until she moved ever so slightly. She moved her slender hands so that she could see, when she did it was like she froze.
“What is your name?” I asked in the softest voice that I could, if she was sensitive to light she more than like was sensitive to sound.
I could tell she was scared, I did not want to give her another reason to be afraid. I still had no idea why I cared so much for her, the force for which I cared was overwhelming, I had to follow what felt right in this situation. This was the reason I was here, yet it was more than just the way for me to live. It was as if I was looking at life itself, how strange.
“Kataya” Her voice was so quiet.
“That is a pretty name.” I said in the same soft voice.
“Did you break the dish on purpose? I do not ask this to cause you harm. I ask so that there is a ponit to reason with The Master.” I said.
I hoped she would answer I heard the servant that cam in and spoke with Master Marcus, it turns out that Master Marcus is not the true Master of this household. Based on Marcus’ reaction The Master returned sooner than anticipated. I just hoped The Master was a reasonable unlike Master Marcus. I also hoped The Master treated his household differently than this Marcus, for a human he was horrible. Even I was not this mean to my servants before ‘the time of Light’.
“No it was an accident. Ask Slivaya.” She said in a whisper.
I could tell that she had very little strength left, she was so pale. I knew what Fairies should look like and this was not it. I was so angered by this fact, that someone could do this to such a beautiful creature. Again theses thoughts caught me off guard why did I care? I looked at her even in the little light that was shining in I could see the scars on her body. Her life had been anything but nice, this fact bothered me, why? These questions, theses thoughts confounded me.
Then I did something that I had not done for many people, I helped her. I carried a small water jug as well as a bit of honey bread. I personally did not eat human food but I carried it for others if it was needed. I knew she was watching me, more than likely carefully, she had no reason to trust me. That fact of mistrust hurt in a way, I could not explain it. However I knew the best way to gain trust was to be gentle, so I was slow in my movements. I removed the water jug from my belt and the bread from the small pouch on my belt. I then moved slowly as I crouched and reached through the bars of her cell and place the water jug and the bread on top of the jug so it would not get any of the cells filth on it.
“Here, this is water and honey bread. Small sips of water as well as small nibbles of he bread, or you’ll end up sick.” I said as soft as I could.
“Thank you. My Lord.” She said softly.
I then slowly stood and walked out of the cell block as quietly as I could. As I did so this situation sadden me, again I could not explain why I cared so much for someone I knew nothing about. But I did know that I was leaving here with her somehow. I walked up the stairs to the main floors of the castle and looked for a servant. Almost as soon as I reach the main floors I found one.
“Miss, I would like an audience with The Master at his earliest convenience.” I said
“My Lord, The Master rarely sees guests.” she replied.
“I want to come to an agreement of purchasing a slave, by the name of Kataya. I will not make an agreement with Lord Marcus who has been my host thus far. I will only make an agreement with The Master.” I said.
I did not wait for her to reply I turned and started to look for the Headmistress she would know who Slivaya is and where to find her. Considering it was getting close to dinner I guessed she would be near the kitchen. As I got closer to the kitchen the smell of the food sicken me. That’s when I noticed the Headmistress walking towards the kitchen, she seemed little more at ease.
“Headmistress?” I asked.
“Yes, My Lord is there something I can help you with?” she answered.
“I’m hoping so, I’m looking for someone.” I answered she stiffen slightly.
“Who? Do you know the name?” she asked.
“Yes, Slivaya. I wanted to ask a couple questions is all.” I answered.
“I see. she should be in the kitchen preparing dinner. Please follow me.” she said.
“Slivaya dear, Lord O’Flynne has some questions for you.” she said.
“Of course, Headmistress. My Lord what can I do for you?” Slivaya said.
“Do you know Kataya, Slivaya?” I asked.
“Yes, I do My Lord.” she answered.
“Good. Did she ever break things on purpose?” I asked.
“No, My Lord. She’s very careful with anything breakable.” she answered
“The dish she broke, that got her into disciplinary confinement, what happened?” I asked
She frowned slightly, glanced at the Headmistress, who nodded her approval.
“It was an accident. She had washed the dishes and was putting them away the last one was sitting on the table. I bummed into the small island table. In doing so it fell and broke we both tried to catch it. But it hit the floor and shattered.” she answered and bowed her head as if to regret the memory.
“Thank you.” I said
I stood there a moment this was exactly what I was looking for, there was proof that Kataya was being treated unfairly which meant I could save her. Again why did I care? I still had no answered but I knew I had to get her out of here. I nodded slightly to both of the and left the kitchen. I just hoped that The Master was a reasonable sort. I had made my way to my room, I knew dinner was in about two hours and I needed to think, as well as freshen up. I could smell the stench of the cells on my clothes. Before I could even begin to undress there was a knock at the door. I sighed turn and walked back to the door, before even opened the door I could smell how it was, Marcus. I opened the door and said:
“Yes, My Lord? Is there something I could do for you?” I asked as politely as I could.
“I came to inform you that The Master will be joining us for dinner.” He stated.
I could smell that he was afraid, but not of me. ‘Hmmm, The Master has ruined his plans. I wonder if this is something I could use to my advantage.’ I thought. But is till had no clue who or what I was dealing with. I smiled and in doing so showed the entirety of my fangs and said:
“Delightful, I’ll be sure to dawn my best clothes then. It will be at the same time?”
Lord Marcus was unfazed by my display, there were only two types of people who were unfazed by fangs, either feeders or those who worked for a Vampire. I could tell by his smell he was no feeder which meant he worked for a Vampire. Oh I could not have asked for a better situation to do a purchase agreement.
“Yes, dinner is at the same time. Thank you for your time, My Lord.” he answered.
He turn on his heel and left, I shut the door and started to laugh to myself, oh this evening just got interesting. Maybe even entertaining.
