(The Masters P.O.V.)
I finally found someone who I thought I could trust, as well as someone who could handle taking care of my household. I leave for businesses with the expectation of my house running smoothly, instead I find this cretin has set himself up as the master of my house. What a disappointment. I gave him the land his family lives on, as well as his title, the income to live a comfortable life, and this is how he repays me.
While in the Highlands a business partner informs me that this, cretin has been making money off of my fairies. He had been selling them as well as buying replacements, then add insult to injury he was mistreating my Fairies. All of my Fairies were feeders they were MY food, and yet he does not feed them well or take care of them properly. The last straw was his treatment of my Headmistress, her family had always served my house well. He had the nerve to threaten her, by extension me. He was worse than most humans, how was he able to hide it? Or did he become greedy? Either way I was not pleased, this would be taken care of one way or another.
I had been taking with the Headmistress, she had left, I was now left with just him. I turned to face him I know my disgust was very visible on my face. He was nervous, there were sweat beads forming on his forehead, I cold hear his heart beat it was controlled but still elevated. At least I could take pleasure in making him very uncomfortable.
“So, Marcus, what am I to think.?” I asked.
I wanted to see how he would explain this, what possibly pathetic excuse he could come up with. I had already talked with the servants I knew what the weather was like, I also knew who was here in my home as well as his treatment of my household which was curious for someone with his reputation. I would get to that later. I knew what had been going on in my home while I was away, the servants told me because they trust me. I am not sure if he knew why they did or not, nor did I really care at the moment.
“My Lord, the weather was bad so the outside teams were sent to the kitchen, it seemed the reasonable thing to do,” he answered. “I also did not threaten her daughter, what I said was that she would be put on restrictions, her and her daughter.”
I watched him very carefully through narrowed eyes. The good thing about being as old as I am is the experience of reading humans. In my life many humans have come and gone, in the years I have meet many humans who were good at lying like Marcus, but like all liars there's always a tell even if humans can not see it. I had learned that good liars will have stories all planned out in case something happens and have them down to a point that they believe it, however their mind still knows they are lying and will have the most minor of reactions. In this case Marcus pupils dilate ever so slightly to human eyes they would not notice but I can see it. Now the question was how many possibility's did he work out. He had broken all trust I had in him, now I had to see how far his greed was going to make him go.
“I see. I have heard tell of a guest, who is this person?” I asked in the most nonchalant tone I could.
“He is a young Vampire Lord. He has a bit of a reputation, however, he is different than his reputation would suggest. His name is O’Flynne, Aiden O’Flynne. He had requested a visit before you left, My Lord.” he said all this very carefully.
“Aww yes, O’Flynne. I remember the letter.” I said. “I thought I had said to arrange his visit for when I returned.”
What he does not know is that the Headmistress’ daughter had brought me the letter. I wanted to see how far he was going to dig himself in this pit, so far it was getting quiet deep. This was entertaining. I knew things were not going well while I was gone, but until this all came to light I had not quiet guessed how far tings had gotten. Even after living as long as I have humans can still surprise you with stunts like this.
“My Lord, I had made the arrangements so that he would be here when you returned. He arrived early which added to the urgency of the slaves all working in the house. To make absolute sure that your name was well represented.” he answered.
He now was trying flattery to distract from his actions a good effort but this just made me want to laugh. The nerve of him to make sure my name was represented well, what a joke. When I left he set himself up as the master, he wanted an appearance of power no matter how short lived. It took all my control not to kill him right then and there. But this was not the time, I wanted to see if he would continue his path, or if he would change with the right push.
“I see. Well I assume that he has been well taken care of?” I asked in the best reassuring tone I could muster.
“Yes, my lord. He will be at dinner tonight, My Lord.” he answered.
“Good! I will be joining the both of you for dinner, tonight.” I said with a smile.
“Of course, My Lord. I’ll make sure everything I is ready.” he answered
He bowed and left my apartment, finally I could sit and seethe in peace. Instead of coming home to a well arranged home I come home to his mess. This disaster could ruin my reputation if not cared for carefully. I sat there alone, I wondered how someone could be so set on there own plans to the point of not seeing that their action affected so many around them. There were different people who had done the same thing and watched as their families were taken from them, as well as everything they cared about. I shock my head in disbelief that people were so short sighted. I started to look over the inventory of the things I had brought back from the trading trip. I was not really paying attention to what I was looking at. Aiden O’Flynne, I knew that name. I knew what he was like, I knew his reputation I had personally seen the after math of what he would do. However I had heard stories that the High Order had gotten involved, there is no telling what exactly happened to him, the High Order was capable of many things.
The things the household had told me of his stay thus far was very curious. Instead of his conduct being brazen or even cruel, which is expected of someone with such a colorful reputation, he was actually considerate of those he encountered, he was even pleasant to those who were given as food. He was even kind to them, not pushing them past what they could do. Even the outbursts of anger were controlled, if he seemed to be losing it he would leave the situation. This was very different than his previous behavior.
I do believe there is going to be a lot of interesting things to come. Yes, I do believe that this night was going to be both interesting as well as enlightening.
