Chapter 6: Home Sweet Home (Amy's POV)

1763 Words
The next morning I woke up early, knowing I was going home. I couldn’t wait to sleep in my own bed tonight and eat a proper dinner. It’s been a few days since I had one and the hospital food I had today didn’t count. It was at least one thing that wasn’t so different from a normal hospital. The food.  I got pulled out of my thoughts when Nick’s mom entered the room, “Good morning Amy, are you ready to go home?”  “Heck yes.” I sounded a bit too excited, making her look at me in a strange way. “Uhm, I didn’t mean it like that, I’m just--”  She started laughing, “Oh don’t worry, I know exactly what you mean. I would be dying to go home as well, love.”  I let out a sigh in relief. “So, where is Nick?” I questioned. Normally he was always around, but I couldn’t sense him anywhere near. “I ordered him to go to school. He got a bit rebellious, but nothing I can’t handle.” She winked at me with a smile. “Oooh…” Both my wolf and I kind of missed him. “So has he talked to you, about the ‘wolf’ thing?” She asked with a more serious tone while examining me for the last time. “Only a little bit. We haven’t had that much time alone to be honest.” I explained. My dad hadn’t left my side, so it wasn’t the best topic to be talking about. “I’m sure he will soon.” She started, “Just know that we are going to help you to learn to control your wolf. We don’t want her to go around and start attacking people.” I hadn’t actually thought about that.  “Don’t worry, it’s going to be fine. We’ll teach you everything there is to know about being a wolf.” She comforted me after seeing my worried expression. “Well, you’re all good. I’ll call your dad and tell him he can come pick you up.” She said before leaving the room. I started packing my things, while her words kept repeating in my head.  I just hope she was right… I mean, what if I attack my dad? Or April? Or even Nick? I really didn’t want to hurt anyone.  When I finished packing, my dad entered, ready to take me home.  “Do you need any help, sweetheart?” My dad was really beaming of happiness. “No, it’s okay, I’m all done.” I told him seriously. “Alright then, let’s get out of here.”  I said goodbye to Nick’s mom on our way out and she mouthed a ‘See you soon’ without my dad noticing. I closed the doors behind me and breathed in the fresh air. It was all very different now. I could smell and hear everything so much clearer. Like the sound of a squirrel jumping from tree to tree or the smell of the damp ground.  This was kind of freaking me out.  “Come on Amy!” My dad yelled before getting inside the car. I put my stuff in the trunk and got in as well.  “Are you okay?” He asked before starting the car. “Yeah, I’m fine.” I responded dryly. “You know you can tell me hunny.” He pushed. I rolled my eyes while turning my head, giving him a ‘leave it alone’ glare.  He put his hands up and started the car. I closed my eyes, trying to relax a bit. My mind started drifting away to my mother. I wanted to tell him, but now wasn’t the right moment, not while he was driving. No, I was going to tell him when we were home. The car came to a stop and seeing my house made me feel more anxious than I thought it would. It was more or less a 20 minute drive, but it felt like more. What do I do if something happens? Nick and his family would be so far away... My dad led the way to the door, carrying my bag.  He opened it, revealing a big banner with the words ‘Welcome Home’ on it and Nick, Amy and Dylan yelling “Surprise!” “Wait, your mom told me you were at school.” I was stunned.  “Yeah, we, uhm, we took a sick day.” Nick chuckled. “We wanted to be here when you got home.” April continued. We all stared at Dylan with full expectations , waiting for him to say something next. “Oh…” He reacted surprised, “Nah, I’m just here so I don’t have to go to school.” He said sarcastically. I walked over to them and pulled the three of them in a hug, “I’ve missed you guys.”  “Okay sweetheart, I have to go now.” My dad interrupted our hug, “Gives you some time to hang out with your friends.” He murmured the last part so only I could hear. And with those words he left, leaving me staring at the door. I could feel Nick approaching from behind, “Home sweet home huh.” I turned and gave him a weak smile. It didn’t really feel that way. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ~ Nick’s POV ~ I woke up to the sound of my alarm going off. It was still early, but Dylan was supposed to come pick me up at 9 o’clock, because we were meeting with Amy’s dad and April around 10. We were going over to Amy’s house, to decorate a bit before she would get home.  It was all her dad’s idea.  Before leaving the hospital yesterday, he asked me if the three of us might be interested in giving her a ‘Welcome Home Party’ and staying with her since he needed to work. I thought it was a great idea and my mom let me skip school for one more day.  When I called April and Dylan they couldn’t have been more excited. Their parents didn’t really like them skipping school, but after a phone call of my parents, they were totally up for it.  So I started preparing and left the house, got in Dylan’s car and we drove off.  “So, how’s it been dude. I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages.” Since the night we almost lost Amy, I hadn’t had much time to talk to him. “I’m good, happy Amy is going home.”  “I feel a ‘but’ coming?” He said while giving me a questioning look. I didn’t answer right away, so he tried again. “Come on dude, what’s wrong? Just tell me.”   “I don’t know man, I think I’m just a bit worried…” I confessed. “Worried about?”  “Well… Amy’s just a newly turned wolf. What if something happens, what if she can’t control herself, what if Jeremy finds out she’s still alive, what if he comes looking for her and I’m not around and I fail to protect her, again. I mean, we don’t even know where he is right now.” I blurted out all at once. I guess I was more concerned than I thought. “Whoa, whoa, slow down.” He spoke while motioning me to take it easy. “Okay first of all, you need to talk to Amy and you need to show her and teach her everything she needs to know. Second, I’m pretty sure Jeremy’s busy running and hiding from your pack.” He chuckled. “Maybe, but I don’t get it, we should’ve found him by now. He couldn’t have gotten that far. It’s only been 2 days” “Perhaps… But he is a smart son of a bitch.” You could hear the disgust in Dylan’s voice when he was talking about Jeremy.  “Now, let’s just forget about it for a moment and enjoy this ‘Welcome Home Party’.”  I turned to face him and nodded in agreement.  “Oh and by the way, I forgot to tell you, April and I kissed.” He suddenly revealed out of nowhere, leaving me gasp in surprise. “That was my exact expression.” He laughed. “Wait? What?! When the hell did this happen?” I was in complete shock. “When I drove her home. We talked in my car before she headed inside. And out of the blue, she just kissed me.”  “Dude, that’s amazing! I’m so happy for you.” The sneaky bastard finally got what he wanted.  The smile on his face suddenly changed into a serious expression. “What’s wrong? I thought you’d be super excited.” “Oh, don’t get me wrong, I am. It’s just, we haven’t talked or seen each other since and I’m not sure--” “If it meant something to her or if it was a one time thing?” I interrupted him. He nodded with a sigh. “Well, you’re about to find out.” I spoke as we parked in front of Amy’s.
