CHAPTER 12
The Documents examination officer at the CID office in Munich North was a mousy-faced, ageing woman, bespectacled and wearing a neatly pressed midnight-blue police uniform. She gave the two men a thin smile and checked their warrant cards, finally entering their service serial numbers in her database records.
Leading the way, she showed them into one of the small interview rooms. A moment later, she returned with a box file from which she emptied the contents on to the centre of the plastic-topped table. The respective envelopes were stapled to each item. She also placed a thick file on top and waited while Mario signed the receipt.
