Just when the flow of information about Vogel's activities became more interesting, the material from Lisa dried up. Her sudden silence without a word of warning seemed out of character and unexpected at this stage in her work. Also disturbing.
"What do you make of it?" Kruger said over the phone to Monika Tiller who was still at her hotel in Frankfurt.
"I fear the worse, Chief. I received a message from her the day before yesterday in the drop box I'd installed for her. She said, she still had copies to make of the latest telephone recordings. She hadn't seen a chance so far. This guy Rudin sniffing around, I guess."
"Did she hint at how long she would still need?"
