Prologue
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅ The first time I ventured out at night without my mother watching me was the night I killed my family. I have to say, my older self took pity on my childhood, stuck in the house because I could never leave, in fear that someone would find me. My mother never told me why, only that I was to stay away from others, or else I would suffer terribly under every circumstance possible. I had been kept in the dark my entire life about the secrets of my family and where I came from. I had no idea what I was capable of, or what my family had done to deserve such a fate. All I knew was that I had to discover the truth for myself. Why? The answer to this question came to me later on. I'm the world's greatest enemy. ⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⊰⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅∙∘☽༓☾∘∙•⋅⋅⋅•⋅⋅⊰⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅ "Ainsling!" I heard my mother crying out for me, yelling my name into the trees while I hid just around the corner of the house. I knew how funny it was to me, but my mother was unable to find me because I naturally could not be found. Of course, my mother being a witch meant she should have been able to use her power to track me, but she never could. When I first found this out, I used it to my advantage whenever she had become too busy with work and forgot about me. I used myself as bait, and it always worked. "Ainsling Mae Moon!" My mother shouted into the darkness. I flinched just slightly, knowing that I was definitely about to get a lash for hiding in the dark. At one point, the fun seemed absurd, so I just walked around the corner of the house and stayed there. I felt a hand go over my mouth, blocking my airway. "Mmmff!" My words were muffled by the stranger's hand and I found myself flailing for freedom. I heard the sound of a male grunt when I hit a tender spot and found my opportunity. Biting down on the stranger's hand, I prepared to scream and suddenly fell to the ground. Hands grasped my ankles as I was dragged back before I could cry out. "Ainsling?" I reckon in those moments my mother felt the distress in my aura, for I could feel her concern as she shouted something in a foreign language. The ground underneath me moved and I heard my kidnapper cursing under his breath. The sound of a howl came from behind us and that broke him. He let go of my ankles and pulled something out of his pocket. It looked like a wand from what I saw as he pointed it at me. "Lisching, unhcr, theundas!" He murmured under his breath, my senses picking up his words as a flash of light came from his wand. "NOOOOOO!" I heard the distress in my mother's voice as the light came toward me. If I hadn't turned, the light would have hit my face just enough to kill me. However, as it landed on the ground behind me, leaving behind a small meteor-like hole in the ground, I scrambled to my feet and ran to the outline of my mother. She pushed me behind her and held her wand up to the stranger. The howling behind him got louder and louder and I could see my mother's breath washing away in the cold air. "You have no business with my daughter." Her words were as cold as ice and, even though it wasn't directed at me, made me flinch at how harsh her tone was. "And you, my dear Luna, have no business having a daughter. The King is angry and wishes to see her head on the end of a sword. I make it worthwhile by making sure it is my wand, for she is a disgrace to the coven as she is to the wolves. The coven is not happy, Luna. The child must die before she causes mayhem." I wanted to ask how I could be dangerous but knew better than to speak in serious situations. Just as my mother was about to respond, the howling stopped and everything fell silent. "If that is your true intention, I am sure you will have no objection to meeting your first and last obstacle." My mother looked at me and I nodded, signaling for me to run as she had told me to do if ever the situation called for it. I turned away and ran as fast as I could, aware that if I turned around, I would not leave her side. I knew that no matter the consequences, I could not turn back; I had to keep moving, no matter how much my heart ached at leaving her behind. She knew this too, and when I finally did, I was not surprised to see the hedge she had grown there blocking me from her. As I continued to run, as I have all these years, I could always hear the growls that lay hidden behind that hedge. I could also hear the sound of my mother's screams as she was killed that night. And along with my father, who I never knew at the time was near that night, he fought alongside her in both wolf and dragon forms. That is why they killed them. Because I was no witch, nor wolf, nor dragon. I was all. And I was destined to destroy the world.
