45 Piotr and his troops sprinted back towards the Tower. He abandoned plans to put a new barrier across Tower Hill to channel the dead north and south, but it was too late. The area around the ancient monument was devoid of life but teeming with death. Piotr realised they were trapped between two divisions of the same undead army – those that had followed them from East Smithfield, and thousands more that had continued to drag themselves along St Katharine’s Way – and they were destined to collide.
