15 There was frantic activity on the other side of the river. It had been like this all day. What had begun as a quick patch-up operation to prevent the dead advancing any further along St Katharine’s Way had morphed into something else entirely. The ease with which the encroaching bodies had initially been repelled had instilled Piotr with confidence, and the repair job had turned into another land-grab.
