As the rest of the group shuffled slowly back through the steadily encroaching early evening gloom, weighed down by bags filled with loot from the supermarket, they saw there were lights on inside the boat. ‘Thank Christ for that,’ Chapman said when they boarded. ‘We were starting to think you weren’t coming back.’ ‘I was getting worried,’ Allison said as she counted them in, one by one. Vicky and Ruth brought up the rear. ‘Not as worried as Chapman,’ Vicky whispered to her. ‘He’s terrified of going back to his boss with an empty boat.’ ‘You reckon?’ ‘Absolutely.
