The journey back to the Glimmer seemed to take far longer than the journey out had. Kaira struggled to take every step. Each time she lifted her legs they felt leaden, as if someone had turned up the gravity significantly.
Each corridor they walked down felt endless. Every time they reached the end of one she was certain they would be back to the hangar and the Glimmer, but every time she was disappointed as yet another corridor opened up ahead of them. And with every corridor the pain got worse.
Tarkus was taking more and more of her weight, but he didn’t complain once. He didn’t say much, but when he did it was to encourage her.
