The Director gestured and one of the guards picked up a complex medical-looking device and stepped towards Kaira.
“I heard some of what you told that imbecile in his office,” said the Director. “But if you don’t mind, we need to satisfy ourselves you were telling the truth. Please stand up.”
Kaira gritted her teeth and nodded despite feeling like a prize animal being studied. She stood and the guard moved the device in close to her body.
The guard took a long time, starting with the device by Kaira’s head then moving it downward so slowly it was hard to detect the movement. Finally he reached her feet, then turned the device off and stepped back.
