Dav sighed and rubbed tiredly at his eyes. The screen in front of him was starting to blur, and he was uncomfortably aware he had broken his promise to get home earlier tonight. But two new patients had come to the clinic and were now in the isolation ward. They said they’d been vaccinated, and with the latest vaccine Dav had developed, so either they were in the very unlucky minority who didn’t get much protection from the jab… or yet another strain had been unleashed by whoever was behind the plague. He had to find out which it was. If it was a new strain he had to determine whether the existing treatments would work when people got ill, and work out how he needed to tweak the vaccine this time.
