“Didn’t you hear what he said?” Kaira yelled at Korg. “He wasn’t responsible for unleashing the plague! The Corporation was!”
“Which is probably why they’re paying me to kill him,” said Korg. “It changes nothing. I have a job, and I’m going to do it.”
Kaira saw Tarkus tense, preparing to do something. She racked her brains for something, anything, she could do to prevent it. There was nothing. Her hand was on her own g*n, but it was still in her holster. There was no way she could draw it in time to stop Korg from firing.
Suddenly red lights started flashing, and a siren wailed. Korg fired, but the sudden commotion had distracted him. His shot went high.
Kaira wasn’t aware of drawing her own g*n. Suddenly it was pointing at Korg. She was surprised to feel no hesitation.
