Shapeshifters in the dark

Chapter One

I awoke suddenly in a very dark room. My eyes got used to the room. I was in a bedroom; it is a very pretty room as I could see. I heard movement around the door, I looked over and saw a chair. I was a shape in the chair, it moved swiftly to the door and quickly opened it. I waited for some reason. I could smell food cooking off in the distance of the house. The shape came back, followed by a dark figure. I felt scared for a moment, but I told myself to calm down. The light came on, it was very bright. I watched as the shape and dark figure turned into the young man from before and a young lady. The man had very big muscles and was wearing a tight black t-shirt with very tight blue jeans. I could see the package he was packing. I looked away and blushed, I knew that he had a very large p***s. I had to turn my eyes away from him, so I looked at the young lady. The lady was very pretty with her blued hair and bright blue eyes. She was wearing a pink blouse and loose blue jeans. The young man spoke again in a deep voice, “Hey you passed out on me when I was telling you where you were going. That was not very fair.” He gave a pouty face.

I stared at him with a confused look on my face. I finally spoke in a very shaky voice, “Sorry about that. By the way what is your name? oh and what is her name?”

The man spoke said, “Don’t worry about it. I am Wolfdragger, she is Littlehope.”

I said, “What is your short names?”

He looked me over, then said, “Mine’s Tom and her’s is Emma.”

I smiled at him. Tom moved so Emma could talk to me. She said, “come outside when you feel you are ready to face what is coming up.”

Tom and Emma left me alone in the room. I sat there for about a half an hour. I gathered my thoughts that I went outside. When I got outside, I found Tom with another young man. Tome spoke,” Hey, did you decide that you are going to face what is going to happened for you?”

I said, “Yeah, just hoping for something good going to happen.” I looked at the other young man asked, “Hey, who are you?”

The man just stared at me. Tom said, “OH, I almost forgot to tell you that this is Nightsky or Stan, your mentor.”

Stan looked like he was going to say something, but he didn’t, so I asked Tom, “What? Are you not capable of mentoring me? Or are you afraid of what is going to happen?”

Tom said, “I have my own pupil to mentor. Stan needs a person to mentor anyway. He just turned into a full-grown wolf.”

Stan said, “I’m the one who bit you so you could be with us. I don’t know why I did it.”

As he spoke, I noticed Stan’s eyes had a ring around his grey pupils. The ring was the same color as the wolf, who attacked me. His black ring stood out like a sore thumb against his gold eyes. I looked over at Tom’s eyes, the same thing but his eyes were chocolate brown with a green ring.

I asked, “Why do we have grey pupils?”

Tom said “Because some of us have black eyes like Stan as wolves. We all have a ring around our eyes. By the way if you were wondering what the color your ring is, it is Icy blue. Icy blue is a powerful color for us wolves. Only two wolves have icy blue eyes. You and one other, that is our leader. She is very powerful. I also have noticed that on females who get the color of icy blue eyes as wolf.”

I said, “REALLY? WOW!!!!!!”

Stan said, “I would like to get started with my training with Lizzy.”

When he said this, he was looking at Tom. He looked at me and said, “Meet me in the woods in the middle of the houses in fifteen minutes.”

Stan looked like he wanted to say something else, but he didn’t. Before he walked away, he looked at me and smiled. I looked at Tom and Tom looked at a little mad. I said, “What is wrong with you?”

Tom said, “Nothing. It is not important.”

I said, “Where are the woods? Why does he want me to meet in the woods for training?”

Tom said, “Well, we have all new wolves go to train there, the first day or so.”

I said, “You didn’t tell me where the woods are.”

Tom said, “Over there.” Tom pointed to the middle of nowhere. I looked back to Tom. He was gone, so I walked the direction that Tom pointed. I ran into a tall man about halfway to the woods. He just appeared out of nowhere. I fell backwards, the man caught me. He said, Sorry, about that. I was just going to the woods. I didn’t see you there.”

I said, “I was going there too. Hey, what is your name?”

He said, “Wolfthroat. Let’s walk together.”

As we walked, I asked, “What is your short name?”

He looked at me and said, “Lance. Why do you ask?”

I said, “I just like shorter names that’s all.”

He said, “Your new. I can tell.”

I said, “How?”

He said, “Your ring is icy blue.”

I said, “So? What is that wrong?”

He said, “No, it is not wrong. It is just only one has an icy ring and she is the leader.”

When he said that, we stop talking. We arrived at the woods, he disappeared as quickly as he appeared. I stood there for a little while. Then Stan appeared and stared me when he did. He chuckled and said, “Hey, good timing. Let’s go.”

He walked off, I followed very quickly. I stop when I saw the wolf standing in the front of me, the wolf who attacked me stood in front of me. I heard inside of my head saying Think hard about being a wolf. I thought very hard about being a wolf. The pain shot through my body; the pain was served enough to drop me to my knees. Next thing I knew I was a lot bigger than I was normally. I looked over at Stan and saw that I was the same size. Stan attacked me, he bit me, I didn’t know what to do so I bit back. I tasted blood but I held my grip. Stan than spoke again in my head, you fought back quicker than other have. I took at least a couple attacks to fight back. You did better, you can stop biting my leg. I let go of his leg. I spoke in his head why do you guys do this? I just did what my gut said. I didn’t think he heard me. Then he turned human again, he was laughing very hard, but naked. I turned human again, I asked him, “WHAT?”

He said, “You did what your gut said, which is really funny.”

I said, “Well, I did what my head told to do when I was in your place. I was told to follow my gut, but I have never done that.”

I just looked at him like he was crazy. Then three people came out of the shadows. All men, I saw Lance, but I didn’t know the other two. Lance said, “Hello, Lizzy. I know you know my name but that is all. I am the Beta of the pack.”

Lance looked that the man next to him, who was tall and skinny with black hair and bright blue eyes.

The man said, “My name is Darknight or Mark. I am the leader of the hunters”

Mark looked at the other man, who looked just like Mark but had green eyes. He said, “My name is Twomouse or Zeke. I am the leader of the guardians.”

Mark spoke, “Lizzy, you did great at thinking fast. You know our leader was the same way. She kicked her mentor instead of biting her.”

When he finished talking a woman stepped out of the shadows. She was drop dead gorgeous. I saw Stan bow, I bowed. I looked up at the woman with very respectful look. The woman spoke in very beautiful voice, “I thank you for telling Lizzy my beginnings Darknight. I think you guys can tell my name.”

Zeke said, “Sorry, Dragonflame.”

Mark said, “We forgot that she is like you more than the others.”

Lance said, “I am sorry, I know we don’t usually tell the new ones who you are until they meet you in person.”

I said, “Okay, I know you guys like long names, but can I get a short name please.”

I thought I was in serious trouble for speaking before I was told to. Dragonflame looked at me and said, “I will tell you my short name if you can think fast as quickly as you did when Nightsky attacked you.”

She turned wolf, I followed her into wolf form. I was a little bigger than her. She attacked me before I could look at the color of her fur. I fought her and she got harder the more I kicked her off. I bit her hard in the leg. She whined, I heard someone gasp when Dragonflame whined. She bit in the ear, I let go her leg and snapped at her face. She finally backed off and turned human. Dragonflame said, “My short name is Angel.”

I said, “Thank you.”

She said, “No problem. You fought well really for a new wolf.”

Angel nodded and disappeared into the shadows again. Lance looked at me with surprise on his face. Mark looked at me with awe. Zeke looked at me with respect. Stan looked like he was going to explode with excitement.

I asked, “What? Did I do something wrong?”

Lance said, “No, you did nothing wrong. It was just…...”

Mark continued, “We have never seen something like that happen before. Our…….”

Zeke continued, “leader has never fought one of the new wolves. She also never has backed off before either. It was…….”

Stan said, “AWESOME!!!!!!!”

I asked, “Which of one of you gasped when I bit Angel and she whined?”

Mark said, “I did. I now know that you are a strong wolf.”

After Mark said that Zeke, Mark, and Lance left. I heard them talking about me. I just laughed at them. I turned to Stan. He said, “Let’s go back. I know we have to go to the leader before we keep going with our training.”

We walked more into the woods. Then Stan stopped and turned wolf. He said in my head Turn wolf, it will be faster, and no humans can go near her place. We always turn wolf, so no one gets killed. I turned wolf; we ran fast. I had to slow my run to not run faster than Stan because I didn’t know where to go. Stan looked very happy. He spoke again in my head Hey, I bet you feel like you should just want to run faster. If you do, then let’s run faster. I just nodded; we ran faster. As we ran, I got ahead of Stan and then ran right into the leader. The leader growled at me; her bright orange fur glistened in the sun. I bowed my head in shame. Stan came running out of the woods into the clearing, he slowed down swiftly. The leader looked to Stan with disappointment. She turned human and said, “Nightsky, why is Lizzy ahead of you?”

Stan turned human too and said, “I said let’s run faster if you want to, so we got to a faster pace and she got ahead of me. She is a lot faster than me. I guess I am in trouble now for not staying ahead of her. I think she was at a jog when I was running.”

The leader looked to me. I was still in wolf form. I was just happy to be there at a pause for the day. She said, “Lizzy, is what Nightsky said true?”

I nodded, I let my tongue roll out of my mouth. The leader laughed at my goofiness. I turned to the right to look confused. I think it worked because she turned to Stan and said, “You’re not in trouble because she is faster than you and we didn’t know.”

Then she turned back to me and said, “I have to give you a long name even if you don’t like it. It is something I must do as a leader of the pack. But it is very hard to figure out you name though. Your name could be Quickflame, Fastfoot, Quickrabbit, Flametoucher, or Flamethrower. Nightsky can you go find Wolfthroat, Twomouse, Littlehope, Darknight, and Wolfdragger quickly.”

I looked at Angel with happiness. I asked in her head what color is my coat? Angel said, “black with a touch of orange like fire.”

Then six wolves appeared, I could see Stan in the back bouncing like a pup. In the front, a yellow wolf with a red throat…I think this is Lance. He is followed by a whit wolf with peace symbols and hearts…I think this is Emma. She is followed by a red wolf that has a wolf dragging another wolf on its side…. I think this is Tom. He followed by two black wolves, one had no symbols and the other had two mice on each side its face. I think that they are Mark and Zeke.

Everyone but me and Stan were deep in conversation. So, I decided that I was going to talk to Stan, so I said in his head one question. Why was Tom mad when you smiled at me?

Stan looked at me and sad Because he thinks that you are going to be his mate or wife.

I asked why

Stan was going to say something when the group turned and the leader said, “We have a name for you and that is Quickflame. We decided that because of your quick thinking and quick run. We also did flame for your coat looking like fire. You have to get use to your new name because that is what you will be called from now on.”

Tom just stared at me with his brown eyes. Stan said well that is why. You are Quickflame so you are his.

I didn’t understand but I just didn’t care. I thought to myself if that is how it is than I will fight it and I will make my own choices. Tom said, “I will see you around Lizzy, I mean Quickflame. I have to find my trainee.”

He took off back into the woods back to the house that he came from. As he disappeared out of sight, I looked to Stan and turned human and said, “Well, Tom is happy. Why do you guys have long names.”

He said, “Because it has been like that for as long as we have been around.”

Then he turned and started to walk back to where we came from. As we walked, I asked, “Why do I have to be the leader?”

He said, “Because the you are the only one with icy blue ring. Only the ones in this pack, does the leader have icy blue eyes. We have waited for someone with icy blue ring to show up. Even if it was from another pack. It is very important to us to find our new leader. Our leader is starting to get old to run the pack and more. I don’t know if it is the way things work or if it is how much the other packs don’t respect you unless you are still young enough to bred. I don’t want to sound rude but Dragonflame isn’t that young anymore. She is can still bred but she won’t bred since her mate died. Her mate was so wonderful to everyone, but he was killed by another pack because they didn’t want kids around the time he died. Angel found out two weeks later that she was pregnant with a child. The child doesn’t know that he is the leader’s son, but he is almost old enough to be a healer, he is Littlehope’s trainee. His name is Kolter and she wanted the best for him. He grew up with a family within the pack. He doesn’t know that she couldn’t take care of him because he reminds her of his father. Dragonflame’s mate was named FlamingKnight. He only wanted the best for the pack just like Kolter. He was a wonderful man. Everyone in the pack knows who Kolter’s real mom is but he does not. I feel like it must happen like that. He is going to be the next healer in the pack. He will be the healer when you rule the pack. I just know that it will be a wonderful experience for you to know and understand your healer.”

I said, “I can’t believe that Angel would give up her own child.”

He said, “Yeah. She also found out later that her mate had another child. Another boy he is older though. The leader doesn’t know that he is a splitting image of his father. I said, “When do I get to meet the rest of the pack? I love to meet the rest that are my age.”

He said, “You will get the chance very soon. We are going to go chase a few people in the woods. To scare them.”

He looked so serious, I stopped laughing. He said, “We also change our first names too, to keep the people we knew knowing that we are still alive. There is no way to get scare people more is acting like you are a ghost for everyone who knew you before you became a wolf. There is no way that you just let people know that you are still alive. You must keep that a secret from everyone. The ones you can let know is ones of the night like vampire or warlocks. They only can be the ones knowing. Can you promise me that you won’t let anyone know that you are alive and well unless the they are not human?”

I said, “I promise. Can we go scare people?”

He laughed and nodded. He changed course and moved the right. He changed to his wolf form, I followed. He took off running, I love the wind in my coat. I feel so free like I could do anything without getting in trouble. We ran for what felt like for a long time. Stan came to a stop in a dense part of the forest. It was so peaceful, the birds chirped, and the wild animals moved so gracefully in the forest.
