Chapter 2

1916 Words
— Victoria POV-    “Stupid, stupid, stupid.” I muttered under my breath.     My good friend, albeit, shy friend was always a special one to the pack. Her mother I would say acted as my mother at times. My own was a.... well never mind that.     Knowing rose’s mom was the old healer I knew that Rose would take on the role after she passed but her death was unexpected as were a number of other wolves. Including Rose’s father, the pack beta. He was by far the most skilled fighter besides our Alpha Linx.    From what I was able to witness with Rose‘s mother, she stayed out late at night and was very exhausted in the morning from healing and placing protection spells all along the borders of the pack territory. And the only other piece I knew of was that the Healer was taught and mentored by the Great Mother Nature herself. How such a spirit could connect with one is beyond me but I followed Rose once after her mother had just passed and saw that the waterfall that is rumored to be the conduit of Mother Nature’s spirit, was lit by a soft blue light. And Rose was sitting on a rock in the middle of the river in the yoga position, crisscrossed while meditating and swirling stones around her body slowly. How? Beats me. But I was then exposed for sneaking up on Rosertina and her training. Next thing I know, I woke up the next morning in bed with no knowledge of how I got there. Since then I will go to bed before everyone else so I can wake up and ask Rose about her training. Or I just wake her up to be mean. She always has late nights all the time, but she is usually never out until morning.     I typically woke a her up at anywhere between 6 or 6:30 in the morning. She will get up but she has never been that tired before. I know I can be very hyper in the morning but that doesn’t mean that I am not aware of others schedules.     I made my way downstairs when the sizzling of bacon and eggs greets me appreciative ears. My stomach growls loudly. A chuckle comes from there kitchen and I know precisely who it is. My crush of six or seven years, and my best friend’s brother, Chance. He was very tall and a few years older than me and Rose. He had blond hair that was military cut with a stud in his right ear. (His only  bad boy attire) He has no tattoos, no hair dye, or any other added feature to his body besides his sexy chiseled abs, muscular arms, and entirely too gorgeous face.     Unlike his appearance he was actually very shy and not too outspoken towards anyone. It was rare for someone his age to be as kind and chivalrous as he was. Normal I didn’t like those kinds of guys but there was a time he stood up for his sister when a neighboring pack was visiting and it as quite the spectacle.    Hey babes where are you headed to? WE wanted some company and you two seem to be fun to hang out with why don’t you show us around?    Rose was very bright red at this point. Whether it was embarrassment or anger I couldn’t tell ya but she was a red tomato. I was ready to tell them off when her brother caught sound of them sending us cat calls and chasing after us. I remember the scene completely as if it were yesterday.   He stormed over in a huff and grabbed the leader’s collar and pulled him in very close.    “You wanna run that by me? That’s my sister you’re chasing after ya know.”    The guy scoffed and patted Chance’s shoulder. “Hey man chillax. We were just asking them if they could show us around. I mean I wouldn’t mind if there was a little bit of fun involved but,” the asshat didn’t have the time to complete his sentence before his nose was broken and a black eye showed up on his face. I hadn’t even seen a wolf move that fast but it happened.     I will never forget his next words.    “If you ever mention Rosertina or Vic,”     Vic?    “in my presence again I will end you before you can say FUCK.” He pulled I guy even closer to his face until it looked like they were almost kissing, “understood? Now try saying that again to my face.” The entire area around us was dead quiet in anticipation. “I dare you”    The asshole and his friends looked frightened at this point. They all looked at one another before running off. The leader of the small group had a funny gait as he ran making it look like he was skipping while running at the same time. I laughed so hard before turning to Chance and stopped still.     His eyes smoldered me making me so freaking hot and bothered I shuffled a little. It wasn’t lost on him since he closed his eyes and smelling the air. His face was that of sheer bliss. When he opened his eyes and looked at me again they were pure black. My wolf whines and said one word that I will never forget.     MINE.   I entered the kitchen and gazed at his mountain of a figure. His shoulders shook slightly from hearing my stomach and I knew he was laughing at me.    “The beast needs to be fed it seems.” He didn’t turn around to see who it was.     “You can’t expect a wolf to not want such amazing food when they just woke to such an amazing smell now would you?”    He chuckled again before turning around, “ I suppose not.”    We gazed at each other before he moved ever so slightly in my direction. Thump thump. Thump thump. Oh my god yes walk towards me. Take me, f**k me, do whatever you want as long as it’s here and now. My wolf was practically salivating at his broad chest. His predator walk was even sexier. She was ready to come right there from his approaching figure.    Spirit hush.     Oh come girl he is all that and a bag of doggie treats at least ask him to go for a run with us later.     Spirit no we don’t even know if he is our mate. We are only going on runs with our mate remember?     Oh whatever even if he wasn’t our mate you would do it in the seconds flat.     Oh my god aspirin shut the f**k up. I blocked her out and found that Chance was right in front of me and couldn’t help but smell his essence. Birch wood and sunshine with a hint of bacon. Never hurt to have that as part of ones smell.   “ Vic?”    Thump thump.    “Yes Chance?” My voice was breathless.    “May I get to the coffee pot please?”    Coffee pot!? I turned around and saw the coffee had just finished putting its last drop. My feelings sank and my cheeks were hot with embarrassment.     “OH sure.” I stepped to the side and let him grab a coffee cup next to the coffee pot before he took a drink and went back to his task of finishing breakfast.   Stupid, stupid, stupid. I ran from the kitchen completely humiliated and disgusted with myself. Of course he didn’t see me that way. I am his sister’s best friend. Why would he ever go for me?     At that point she hurried out of the pack house and shifted on her way to the woods and ran, her wolf crying as they went. —Third POV— With as much force as she could muster, Rosertina finally got up at 10:36 and was ready to go about the day.  It didn't come as a surprise to find her room a slight disaster after the "morning ritual".  Victoria was the Tasmanian Devil's cousin after all.  That was her nickname anyways.  Victoria didn't care for it but then who cared; it brought a smile to Rose's face every time.       No time like the present to clean it up. Ritae sighed. Rosertina rolled her eyes in agreement. Begrudging agreement.         The same thing happened every single day, they went to bed with a clean, spotless room and woke up to it being a disaster.  Normally her books would all be in order and dirt-free on the book shelf next to her desk which was by the door.  And her bookshelf was next to the nightstand on the left side of her bed.  She loved to read a little before she fell asleep.     As per usual, once she was tired and heavy-lidded, she would put the book neatly away and then crawl into her wolf duvet covered bed and fall into a deep slumber.  To the right of her bed was her dresser which was next to big picture window that overlooked the gardens from her second floor room.      Granted not many stayed inside the pack house due to the other pack wolves having their own family homes, so she and her brother got to pick their own rooms.  The pack house was quite large, with the same floor plan as that of a plantation house there were plenty of rooms to spare.       After her parents died in a war with a rival pack years ago the pack Alpha and Luna took them in and practically raised them as their own.     And Alpha Linx was a fare alpha. He had been through quite a bit in his life, and it made him appreciate everyone within his pack. He and her father had been good friends, which had led to him becoming the beta for Linx. They had been through a lot together but with the last attack years ago he had died trying to get to her mother who had been killed while placing a protective barrier over the packs borders.   They were known as heroes of the pack and died honorably, even though they shouldn’t have died at all.     The pack had been gracious toward her and Chance ever since then. AS she got dressed in a crop top and jeans, walked downstairs, she could smell the aftermath of breakfast. Potatoes, bacon, and eggs. Her favorite breakfast. And from the smell of it she could tell that her lovely brother made it. He had a way with breakfast foods, and she was quite grateful for that since she couldn’t cook to save her life.     As she made her way into the kitchen she saw a note written in chicken scratch.      hey sis, leftovers are in the fridge. Don’t worry there is plenty left enjoy!!!!     - Chance      I love our brother.       Rosertina looked around to try and place the voice she just heard before shrugging her shoulders and heating up a pile full of breakfast.      “Happy morning.” She said to no one in particular.
