Retirement Life
On a busy city street, traffic flowed endlessly, people came and went, and the rain washed the ground, splashing countless water droplets. Sebastian stood at the corner, gazing at the bustling scene before him, his heart filled with mixed emotions. Having just retired, he possessed rich experience as a special forces soldier and a strong government background, but he chose to live a low-key life in this city.
Sebastian entered a small apartment, his new home in the city. The apartment was in an ordinary neighborhood, simple but clean, just like his usual style. He put down his luggage, looked around, and felt a surge of emotion.
“This place isn't bad,” Sebastian murmured to himself, “at least it’s quiet.”
He began to unpack, placing the simple furniture and household items one by one. Once everything was in order, Sebastian decided to go out and familiarize himself with the surroundings. He walked out of the apartment, raindrops hitting his shoulders, the moist air filled with the fresh scent of earth. He encountered a neighbor, a middle-aged woman.
“Hello, just moved in?” the neighbor greeted with a smile.
“Yes, I’m Sebastian, just moved in.” Sebastian replied politely.
“Welcome, welcome! I’m Aunt Li. If you need any help, just let me know.” Aunt Li said warmly.
“Thank you, Aunt Li. I don’t need anything for now, just going to take a look around.” Sebastian nodded with a smile.
Leaving the apartment, Sebastian strolled down the street, observing everything around him. The city was busy and orderly, full of modern vibes. Skyscrapers stood tall in the rain, their glass facades reflecting the misty raindrops. People hurried by, their umbrellas forming a colorful sea above them.
Sebastian walked into a coffee shop, ordered a black coffee, and sat in a corner, quietly contemplating his future life. Outside the coffee shop’s glass window, rainwater flowed down, creating streaks that made the street scene appear hazy and serene.
He knew that with his background, finding an ordinary job wouldn’t be difficult, but he didn’t want to attract attention. Just then, he noticed a few men arguing in another corner of the coffee shop. His keen instincts told him that these men might be trouble.
Sebastian stood up, walked to the counter to leave. As he was paying, a man suddenly burst in, heading straight for the arguing men, and the atmosphere became tense. Sebastian instinctively stopped and quietly observed.
“It seems this city isn’t as peaceful as it looks.” He muttered, feeling a sense of vigilance.
After leaving the coffee shop, Sebastian continued to stroll down the street. The rain gradually intensified, and he opened his umbrella and continued to observe everything around him. The lights from the shops on both sides of the street looked particularly warm in the rain. Some small vendors hurried to pack up their stalls, and street performers temporarily stopped their performances to avoid the rain.
Back in his apartment, Sebastian opened his computer and started browsing job listings. The sound of rain outside added a touch of serenity to the night. He knew that peaceful days wouldn’t last long, but he still hoped to find an ordinary job in this city and live a normal life.
Suddenly, Sebastian’s phone rang; it was a call from an old comrade. He answered and heard a familiar voice, “What’s up bro? Are you adjusting well after retiring?”
“Not bad, just moved to this city, planning to find a job and settle down.” Sebastian replied.
“If you ever need anything, just let us know. We brothers always have your back.” His comrade’s voice carried a hint of concern.
“Thanks, having you guys around makes me feel secure.” Sebastian smiled and hung up.
