Chris takes the time to start his Pontiac before answering me:
“He’s like a brother to me.”
“What about Benny? Amanda never told me about him when...”
I suddenly stop, a little embarrassed to admit that I had gotten news of him through my friend.
“Benny now works for the bikers. Erik is with him. Only Jo accompanied me on the way to honest work,” he finishes with a bitter laugh.
“I see.”
“I was even able to keep my apartment,” adds Chris, glancing at me before focusing on the road again. “Benny squatted it and paid the rent for those two years.”
He shifts into gear while taking the highway.
I give him a surprised look.
“Where are we going?”
“To the sea,” he announces with the shadow of a smile on his lips.
“Now?!” I exclaim while sitting up.
He remains silent for a few seconds.
