*After three months- December*
Life never seems to give me a break. Every time I try to move in a direction the resistance is so much, that I have to start from the beginning. After my sessions with Cole, things are slowly becoming normal. The fact that my family is low key deranged didn't change. Maybe that's my new normal.
I hugged my coat as I walked to Nora's house. It is her birthday tomorrow and she wants me to spend it together since we can be separated next year. I hope not. Nora is my anchor and there are situations that she proved she is worth.
I knocked at her door and waited for her to open it. The street she resides somewhat gives the cozy feeling. Not the large building like our streets but the homely feeling that comes with the moderate size.
People are decorating houses for Christmas which is two weeks away. They seem happy and content. I smile at Nora's neighbor. He is 80 old veteran but always has something horror to share. At one point it feels like haunted but he is nice.
"You did not", Nora grimaced.
"Yes I did", I answered as I push into her door. The cold made my mouth dry as I ran to the kitchen for some hot chocolate which Nora's dad has expertise.
"What happened to your car?". Well that's the thing I forgot to tell her.
"I gave back". I actually I gave my keys last month, not like I use it everyday. We are not in speaking terms, atleast not infront of my mom.
She still thinks that I am going through the teenage phase to disrespect my parents. I internally scoffed at her words.
"That's a news", she rolled her eyes and grabbed another mug.
We crashed on the couch and I bet the tv is showing the reruns of vampire diaries.
This girl is f*****g with Damon through the damn TV
Not to mention one time I heard Damon during the time I am sure she was doing the deeds.
"Where's your dad?"
"Store", she replied curtly. I nodded and turned towards the TV.
When Nora's dad walk in, I am hit with different flavors, one of them being honey. I grabbed the bag with cake and put in the kitchen. He put pizza on the table and we eat the dinner at silence. It isn't an awkward one but comfortable.
The dynamic between us has always been fluid. No words are required. We know
I pushed myself on my elbows in Nora's bed. The pastel colors are prominent in her room with a queen sized bed. She has photos of her dad, mom and mine.
"So I heard a name Jason", I slowly started but didn't miss her face flushing red. She has a crush on Jason of our class but never once admitted herself. But she didn't see another thing coming.
"What about him?", she raised her eyebrow trying to control her embarrassment.
"Nothing. I heard that he mentioned you once or twice", I turned on her bed and face the ceiling. I can hear her take a sharp intake.
"What?", she asked dreamily. I scoffed.
"Yeah, the guy you have absolutely no feelings mentioned you here and there", I said hitting her shoulders playfully. She hides her face into the pillow and groaned.
"What did he say?"
"Who? the guy you have no feelings?", I continue to rile her up. She better own her feelings before I pull her head from the ass.
"You know I like him", she finally admitted with a groan.
"I think he likes you"
"There's no chance he likes me. He is wayyyy out of my league", she denied as she lied down next to me.
"What makes you say that? You are the perfect girl I have ever known"
"He is rich, handsome and famous. You know, they don't suit me and I've seen with many girls. I am protecting my heart. It's just a crush, it'll pass", she sounds more like promising herself.
I let her be. I am not pushing relationships if she is not ready. I have her back no matter what and she knows that.
When the clock hit 12, Nora's dad walked into her room with the cake and the letter. It's her 18th birthday and her mom wrote her letters for every birthday even she is not with us now.
She blows the candle and the party starts. We all dress up at midnight. Her dad has champagne and chicken ready on the table. We shut all the windows and started the music. It is own twisted way to celebrate birthday.
Nora takes her dad's hand as I sit the dining table watching the pair dance to the slow music. At one point, her dad leans in to say something and her eyes brim with tears. My heart swell up for the girl who deserve the world. Her mom will be jumping up and down at her beautiful daughter.
Nora's dad took my hand and she sit in my chair. The music is slow and calming and we are not ready to face police not that anyone will complain.
"You know I remember you girls being so small and I blink, suddenly you are 18", He said a little pained.
I smiled at his words, "Technically I am not 18 yet"
"Technically", he repeated my words.
"I am so proud of you girls", he swirl and continue," You have each other's back and nothing matters more to me. I hope you both stay the same to the end of the time"
"End of the time"
It is time for letter. Nora opens her letter with tearful eyes.
"Dear Butt Cheek,
Mommy is writing this letter from heaven to tell you how much I miss you with all my heart and love. My little baby turns 18 today and I can't be more happy.
I saw you grow up and I always knew that you will be a heart breaker. Don't tell you dad but you take after me a lot in that area.
Mommy will miss you. I am here to look after you from above. I am here to guide you with each step. Live your life, wear that sexy smoking hot red dress, go to the pub and get wasted. There is always tomorrow. Let your worries go, seek for love and share it.
Close your eyes when you miss me. I'll run to your dreams to hug my dear daughter. I want you to know that I regret not taking care of myself and leaving you alone tears me apart but I know I am blessed to have a daughter like you and a loving family.
Don't mourn for me for too long. Live the life that I wanted to live. Enjoy happiness as I find mine in you and never drop that heart stopping smile. I literally died when I saw you smile for the first time and take care of your dad. I love you so much
Love,
Mommy
P.S. I prefer ibuprofen for hangover"
The room is dead silent except our sniffing sounds. My eyes are becoming blurry with emotions and I can see hunched over the table and crying. I hug her into me. I see her dad crying.
"I guess we are listening to the lady. Your mom would've smacked the hell out of me if she saw you crying", he chuckled wiping his tears.
Nora pull her head from my neck and wipes her tears with a smile. At that moment, I realize it is a perfect family. It doesn't have physical figures to complete but the love surpass all the flaws that life has for them.
