Chapter 1: A Chance Encounter
In a serene park where autumn leaves painted the ground in hues of yellow, orange, and red, Kia Ferrer was walking while focused on her phone. Lost in deep thought, she paid little attention to her surroundings. Meanwhile, Ian Dela Cruz was rushing, chasing after a piece of paper being carried away by the wind. Unexpectedly, their paths collided. A sudden bump! Kia’s belongings fell to the ground, along with Ian’s scattered papers. “Oh, I’m sorry, miss! I didn’t mean to,” Ian immediately said, quickly picking up the papers from the ground. Kia, however, remained standing, staring at him in surprise. At that moment, something electric passed between them, as if time had momentarily stopped. “Miss, are you okay?” Ian asked, his voice filled with concern. Kia blinked, as though snapping out of a trance. “Oh… I’m sorry,” she replied shyly, crouching down to gather her belongings while avoiding his gaze. “No, please don’t apologize. I should be the one saying sorry. I bumped into you. Let me help you,” Ian said, handing Kia her bag. Their eyes met again, and for a brief moment, the world seemed to pause. There was an unspoken connection, a feeling as though they had known each other for a long time. “Thank you,” Kia softly murmured, her voice trembling slightly. But behind her nervousness, a small smile played on her lips. After that, the two sat down on a nearby bench. Ian broke the silence, his voice warm and curious. “What’s your name, miss?” Kia hesitated for a moment before replying softly, “I’m Kia Ferrer. And you?” “Ian Dela Cruz,” he answered with a gentle smile. For a brief moment, they exchanged shy glances, the air between them charged with an inexplicable connection. Ian then spoke again, this time with a playful tone. “How about we grab some coffee? My treat—as an apology for what happened earlier.” Kia immediately shook her head, her cheeks turning pink. “Oh no, you don’t have to. It’s fine, really. It was just an accident.” But Ian was persistent, leaning slightly forward with a grin. “Come on, it’s the least I can do. Please don’t make me feel guiltier than I already am.” Despite her initial hesitation, Kia couldn’t help but smile at his insistence. “Alright… but just one cup,” she finally said, her voice barely above a whisper. Ian’s face lit up, and together, they began walking toward a nearby café—unaware that this simple gesture would mark the start of something much bigger. They went to a cozy coffee shop, the warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee filling the air. As they sat across from each other, they began to talk about their lives—sharing little bits and pieces that made them smile and laugh. Time passed quickly, and before they knew it, evening had fallen. Kia glanced outside, noticing the dark sky. "Oh no, it’s already nighttime. I should head home," she said, sounding a little flustered as she reached for her bag. Ian leaned forward, concern evident on his face. "Let me walk you home. Where do you live?" Kia shook her head, smiling nervously. "Oh, no, no. That’s too much. You’ve already done enough. I’ll be fine." But Ian wouldn’t take no for an answer. "It’s no trouble at all. It’s late, and it’s not safe for you to go alone. Please, I insist." Still hesitant, Kia finally relented with a small sigh. "Alright. I live near the intersection over there, by the row of apartments." Ian’s face lit up. "Oh, that’s perfect! I’m heading the same way. See? It’s meant to be," he said with a teasing smile. Kia couldn’t help but laugh softly at his persistence. “Okay, fine. Thank you.” As they left the coffee shop and walked side by side under the streetlights, the evening air felt a little warmer, and the connection between them grew stronger with each step. When they finally arrived at Kia’s place, Ian stopped a few steps away from her door. “Alright, take care. Let’s keep in touch, okay? Chat me anytime,” he said with a warm smile. “Thank you,” Kia replied softly, her voice filled with gratitude. “Good night.” As Kia entered her home, she couldn’t resist peeking through the window. She watched Ian as he walked away, his hands casually in his pockets, disappearing into the dimly lit street. A small smile played on her lips. Once inside, Kia changed into her comfortable clothes and prepared for bed. As she lay down, her phone suddenly buzzed. Surprised, she grabbed it and saw a message from Ian. Ian: "Hey, just checking in. Have you eaten yet?" Kia felt her cheeks warm as she smiled at the screen. After a moment of thought, she typed a reply. Kia: "Yes, I did. Thank you for asking. You?"
