Chapter Four

Catastrophe If there was anything the twenty-year-old recessive omega didn’t expect, it was having a pup without a father. She had sworn to herself to have a happy family, to have a complete family, and to show her pups the true love of a mother and a father. But that had become a distant dream, one that would never manifest in her life. “You need to stop beating yourself over what has been done, Violet” Madeleine–her grandmother, was also taken aback by everything that had happened to the granddaughter she had tried so hard to protect. She felt as if the egg she had tried protecting had finally cracked, but unlike Violet, she still had faith that things could still be fixed. “Aren’t you disappointed in me?” Violet questioned, her hands circling her stomach while she stared at her room window. Staring out the window had become a habit of hers for the past six months, as if she still had hope that he would return, that he would come back to her and promise never to leave again. Despite having managed to convince herself that she was going to live on without him, she would take care of her child and make sure the two never crossed paths. She had accepted his rejection and was disgusted by her naivety then. The dominant Alpha was just like the Alphas her grandmother warned her about and she should stay away, yet, she couldn’t push down that hope that he would come back to at least apologize to her. “Come here, Violet” Madeleine tapped on the bed for her to come seat, which she obliged. “I can never be, it may seem like a mistake, but what I see here…” She pointed at Violet’s belly with a smile spread across her face. “This is an opportunity, a door is going to be open for you dear,” Madeleine said to her. And she tried her best to hold on to those words, to think about the good aspect more, which was her unborn pup but as months passed and the time for delivery came closer, it became harder for her not to think of the grey-eyes Dominant Alpha. Three years had passed, and the omega had begun to get on her feet. She had a three-year-old and her sick granny to look after, and the weight on her shoulders had become more, but they both needed her to be strong. For the first time, she had left the dark forest to search for herbs to heal Madeleine as the elderly woman could barely get to her feet. Not only were the herbs hard to get, but they were also expensive, so she had to begin selling lotus in a stall in the town to earn some money for feeding her family. The days had become tougher, but she was excited to always return home to meet her family. However, tonight was going to mark another day of heartbreak. As usual, Violet closed her stall and began to make her way back to the dark forest, expecting to see Madeleine reading night stories to Johan, her son. However, Johan was seated on the bare ground right in front of the cabin. His head was bent to his knees while he sobbed. “Johan” Violet rushed to her sobbing son, confused as to the reason he was outside at such an hour. “Mama” The boy rushed to his mother’s arms, hugging her tightly, as he sobbed harder. “Grandma is not waking up,”. He said through hard sobs. Violet felt a crack in her heart as she picked her son up to her arms, stroking his back while she made her way up to Madaleine’s room, hoping it wasn’t what she thought it was. “Grandmother!” She cried out, placing her son down as she rushed to the elderly woman who seemed to be sleeping peacefully, too peaceful for such a chaotic world. Violet kept tugging her grandmother to awaken while she cried out, but the elderly woman did not move. Her body had gone cold, and her skin had gone pale. She had lost her only guardian, and it took days after burying Madeleine for Violet to accept her reality. It was just her and her son now. She squeezed the paper in her hands. The brown sheet and the white plain sheet, both contents of the letter, prompted her to leave the dark forest. While the brown sheet contained the hurtful words of her ex-mate who had abandoned her, the other was the last words of Madeleine, the things she couldn’t bring herself to tell Violet. It took her seven days to come to a conclusion and exit the dark forest with her son as she moved to town, hoping to find what she had come here for. “Mama, why do we have to move here?” Johan asked as they set up their things in their small space room. Violet couldn’t tell the three-year-old the reason. He was too young to be bothered by such. It was her problem. However, Johan wasn’t the kind to keep shut when his questions weren’t answered. So the omega ruffled his silver hair and ignored the tightening in her chest as she stared at the pair of grey eyes while she spoke. “It’s easier to make money here, son, besides you can also get to make friends, and we can explore the pack,”. The omega lied, hoping her son would let it die and not ask further questions. “Come on, let’s go to the stall, there are so many nice kids out there” She stretched forth her hands for the three-year-old to take. However, the little boy shook his head aggressively. “I prefer the forest mama; I don’t like people”, Johan yelled. But Violet frowned. She couldn’t understand the little alpha’s attitude. It felt like the boy was nothing like her, from his physical features to his attitude. He was too stubborn and hot-tempered. “Don’t say that Johan, the people here are nice, they will love you-” “But I won’t love them, mama” Her heart tore, and those pair of grey eyes from that night, three years ago, flashed across her mind and she could feel her blood rush at the little boy’s statement. But still, he was a kid. All she had to do was correct him and make sure he didn’t turn out to be an asshole like that… “Fine, you will stay, and I will go get ingredients for dinner,” she said, and the little boy flashed her a smile before running to the bed to lie down. Violet sighed before heading out for the market. However, everyone outside seemed to be extra today. The road was clear and everyone stood by the side as if they were waiting for someone to walk past. But she needed to get back to her son before sunset, so she ignored whatever they were doing and walked over to her stall to grab some lotus. But then froze midway when she heard a voice from behind. “How dare you cross the part cleared for the Alpha to pass?”. A female spoke behind her. Violet slowly turned to the female figure behind her to apologize and get back to what she was doing. “You low lives have refused to learn manners” She went on. This wasn’t the first time she had been insulted because of her status, but she couldn’t stay out any longer. She was worried about her son. “I apologize for my ill manners, Madam” The omega bowed, hoping that would be the end of it but a scent past her nostrils, one she hadn’t inhaled for three years, one she never wanted to inhale, and it came closer and closer. “It can’t be-”. She thought, her eyes widened as she slowly lifted her head. But this time the lady in front of her was no longer alone, there was the father of her son right beside her.
