SWOONED

Helios stared at the unconscious girl sprawled on his bed. She was in a bruised and bloody state and there was a gash on her cheekbone, where the hit had landed, her blouse was almost ripped to pieces. No matter how he stared at her, he couldn't recognize who she was, and neither did any of his pack members. Everyone was waiting for an explanation for his sudden call to save a mere human. Especially his brothers and he didn't have any to give. He could feel Markus' rage as he paced up and down in the living room. He had to calm them down. He was an Alpha quite alright, but he wasn't the regular alphas that led their pack with ironclad hands. He was brutal to the enemies and deserving members, but his members respected him more than they feared him. He was trying to eradicate that belief of werewolves where the females were seen as weak and just there to bear pups and where Alphas were tyrants. It was in his father's time, and since he took over as the Alpha, things have gotten a lot easier and they remained the strongest werewolf pack in existence. They had a lot of enemies, but it wasn't a problem for them. Civilization didn't make him any less possessive or dominant though. He still possesses the qualities of an Alpha and his animal instinct was still outrageous, even though he tries to control his wolf. His wolf was a special breed and looked so gentle and adorable, but looks can be deceiving. His wolf was fierce, big and bad. He could shapeshift at will, that was a gift he had gotten from the moon goddess. While others waited for the full moon to shift, he could shift whenever he felt like and that was what had saved Rain tonight. When he saw what was happening, his anger had boiled and he had found a corner and shifted into his large wolf, letting his wolf take every control, the rage and everything. That had done magic or so he thought. The vampires fled, leaving Rain lying there unconscious. He wished he had gotten hold of that vampire that had hit her. He would have ripped him apart and made sure he never comes back to life. Markus and Darren barged into his room. He guess they were tired of waiting for him to come down and explain things, they came up to his room to fetch the explanation themselves. They looked a little worse themselves. Markus has a bruise on his forehead and a lesion around his left eye, while Darren's lip was swollen and bloody. "Do you care to explain this, Alpha Helios?" Markus asked, waving toward Rain. Helios drew the covers over her to cover her exposed brassiere. Then he stood up and perched on the table in the room, stretching out his legs and placing his hands on the table for support. "What do you want me to explain?" "Those were King Icarus' vampires," Darren said. Helios knew what he was talking about. It was beyond him what a vampire would want with a human. Every supernatural knew Icarus. He was a ruthless vampire king and took women however he wanted. The only explanation for his attack tonight could be that he wanted her for himself or—he looked at her again, a frown creased his face. Could it be she knew something about the Moon Blood? He didn't even know who she was and where she came from. He just knew she was human. A strange human but he had never thought that she has the Moon Blood. It can't be, humans have nothing to do with the Moon Blood, she was a mere human. The former reason was the most likely. "I know they were," he replied slowly. "From everything that happened tonight, we knew they were not after her blood. They wanted her." Helios felt his anger rising. He gripped the edge of the table and shot Markus a cold look. "And you think I don't know that? Come on, Markus what would you have me do? Let them take her?" "It was none of our business, Alpha Helios. You just dragged us into this vampire and human mess and knowing the vampires, they are already planning their revenge. We don't even know this human girl." Darren ran his hands over his face. "I know her," Helios blurted, looking at the floor, not wanting to see the questioning looks on the faces of his brothers. Werewolves were not supposed to be confused when they find their mates. They were supposed to know them instantly, but something about Rain was confusing him a lot. He was drawn to her, he wanted to spend time with her, but he wasn't sure she was his soulmate. His pack wasn't particularly for human mates, but he was the Alpha and he could change any rules. That wasn't his problem at all, his problem was that she was blocking him out and he didn't know how. He felt there was something between them that needed resolving. "Perhaps, is she your mate?" Markus asked. "I... I..." He sighed. He couldn't tell them he was confused. "I feel she is. I am drawn to her and all, but there is something about her that keeps confusing me." Markus and Darren exchanged glances. "Finally, Alpha Helios, you have found your mate." Helios looked at them in confusion and stuck out his hand to stop them from celebrating yet. "Listen, I think she knows who I am. I mean the first day we met, she called my name in full. There is a mystery about her that I need to find out." Markus and Darren's faces crunched up in confusion. "And you just confirmed it tonight by Icarus coming after her," Markus said and sucked in a huge amount of air. He was the analyst among them and tend to think more logically. He corked his eyebrow and tilted his head. "If she is your mate, that means Icarus knows about it and that is why he is after her, but why?" That was the question. Why? Helios hasn't even told them that a witch was present yet. He won't tell them until he finds out the reason himself. "I don't know. I think we need to find out first. We need to find out who she is first before we proceed to do anything. Scum of the earth, Icarus likely wants her as one of his conquests and I will make sure I put a stake through his heart before he did that," Helios snarled, his eyes turning darker as he spoke. "You have to calm down until we find out who she is first and why Icarus is after her." Markus parted his shoulder, glanced back at Rain who was still lying there on the bed without turning and started to leave. Darren followed suit, leaving Helios alone. They knew better than to stay there and try to make sense to him when he was furious. Slowly, Helios' eyes returned to green and he kept staring at Rain on the bed. Looking at her drew him in the more and he felt a warmth washing all over him. She was his mate and there was nothing else he was going to think. He was just going to convince her to feel him. Maybe it was more difficult with humans. She doesn't even know what he was yet unless her friend has told her. He went into the bath and reappeared with a wet towel. He sat down beside her and wiped the dried blood from her face, then he pushed back her hair that fell on her face and placed the towel on her forehead. She was damn beautiful even in an unconscious state. ~~~ Rain felt like a jackhammer was being hit on her head. She let out a low whine and shifted her body, the pain seared through her whole body. She felt like she had been thrown down from a ten-story building and her head felt like it was made of cement. It felt so heavy that she couldn't even move it. Then she slowly opened her eyes and watched the ceiling. It took a few seconds for her to realize that she was alive and on a bed. She lifted her hand and tried to sit up on the bed, not upsetting her head. She pushed herself up with her arms and a pit grew in her stomach when she realized she wasn't in her room. Just like a movie on reverse, the events of last night flooded back to her in one motion and she gasped. She hadn't dreamt it. Those things had happened for real. Panic set in as she saw her ripped blouse. She searched around for her phone and found the broken device on the nightstand. She grabbed it immediately and tried to turn it on. It was shut down. She long pressed it to turn it on. The lights came on and it took forever to boot. When it finally booted, she saw twenty missed calls. Ten from her mother, seven from Jenny, and three from Drake. She had a feeling that Jenny's phone must have died out while trying to call her and she had to use Drake's line. Despite she didn't know where she was, she decided to call her friend first. She couldn't handle her mother for now. The woman must be worried sick and out of her mind by now. Jenny answered almost immediately. "Hello," Rain said holding her breath. Her mother could be with Jenny. "Oh, Rain. Thank God." she could hear the relief in Jenny's voice. "Where are you?" "Honestly, I don't know. I was knocked out last night and...and…" "Oh, my God, Rain. When we got there we didn't see you again. I mean the last place your GPS said you were. Did you turn it off?" "I didn't. Has my mom called you yet?" "What do you think? I just had to stay over at Drakes. I lied to her that you are staying over at mine and that you were asleep. I don't think she bought that though, but I had to say something to keep her at rest. I just hoped you are fine. Just check around where you are and tell me what you see around you... " The words rushed out of Jenny's mouth. "I am in a vast room, on a king-sized bed, there is a spiral chandelier and..." "Rain! Are you joking right now?!" "But that is all I see. Jenny, I was knocked out last night and I don't know who took me home." The handle on the bathroom door turned and Rain lowered her voice. "Okay, I think I am about to find out." The door opened and a half-naked Helios stepped out of the bathroom with a clean white towel wrapped around his waist, his hair dripping wet. For a while, Rain forgot everything and focused on the Alpha male coming out of the bathroom. Her eyes ran over his perfect tan skin, his abs and that V that ran into the towel. He raised the towel he was holding in his hands and started drying his hair, the muscles in his arm contrasted and constricted while he did that. Rain didn't think she has ever seen a man this good-looking before and she had never imagined being swooned by a man she was supposed to be avoiding. "You are awake." His voice brought all that slow-motion thing and that imaginative music playing in her head to an abrupt stop. She blinked twice and only realized her phone had slipped from her hand. Just how much had she gaped? How lost was she? Her face burned with embarrassment and she drew the covers up her chest, to cover whatever dignity was left of her. Helios was pretending that nothing happened but she knew very well that he noticed her, and lost watching him, to the extent of letting her phone slip away from her ear. She picked up her phone and put it back to her ear. "Jenny, I will call you back. It's Helios." She didn't give Jenny the chance to say anything, she took the phone away from her ear but she got a whim of Jenny's voice saying. 'Oh, thank God.' Helios was ignoring her now. His back was to her and he was staring at himself in the mirror. He wasn't making any moves to cover himself and she knew he knows exactly what he was doing. She dragged her eyes away from him and tried to drag her mind along with it. Then she cleared her throat. "First..." "I..." They spoke at the same time. Helios turned to her and smiled. Then he gestured for her to start first. "Ladies first." Looking at him again made her forget what she wanted to say. At that moment, she knew she was in big trouble because she was still attracted to him just like she had been seven years ago and if she did nothing about it, he was going to bend her because he knew he could and she didn't want that. She didn't want anything to do with any werewolf. But she was beginning to doubt her thoughts of rejecting him.
