Episode 8:She Doesn't Break Anymore

551 Words
Kael stood at the edge of the northern ridge, the wind carrying a trace of her scent—faint, but present. He hadn’t slept in days. His wolf paced inside him, howling for her, but the Alpha in him still clung to pride. He should’ve walked away. But he couldn’t. The rejection was supposed to sever everything. Instead, it had done something worse—it cracked the bond and let everything wild crawl out. “I found a trail,” Coren said behind him. “Fresh. She passed through here last night.” Kael stepped forward, running his fingers across the claw marks in the trees. His heart tightened. These weren’t from a frightened omega. These were from someone trained, sharpened—someone like him. She was evolving. He closed his eyes and inhaled again. Her scent had changed too. It was stronger. Fiercer. And laced with something almost… divine. Moonblood. He swallowed hard. “I need to see her,” Kael muttered. “Before someone else gets to her.” Coren hesitated. “Are you sure she wants to see you?” Kael didn’t answer. He couldn’t. Because the truth was—he wasn’t sure she wouldn’t kill him on sight. And he wasn’t sure he didn’t deserve it. Alera sat at the riverbank, watching the moon’s reflection ripple across the water. The fire inside her had cooled into something dangerous—steady, patient, aware. The heat had passed, but not without consequence. Her body had changed. Her senses were sharper. And her emotions… harder. Selene appeared beside her without a sound. “He’s coming.” “I know,” Alera replied calmly. “I felt the bond stir.” Selene nodded. “Are you ready?” Alera’s eyes didn’t leave the water. “He expects to find the girl he broke.” “But he won’t.” “No,” Alera whispered. “He’ll find the woman he forged in fire.” Just then, a shift in the wind. A rustle of footsteps. She stood slowly, turning. Kael stepped out from the trees. He looked different—drawn, wild-eyed, thinner. But she didn’t care. Her heart didn’t race. Her knees didn’t weaken. She was done bleeding for him. Kael froze when he saw her. She was radiant. Alive. Glowing under the moon with silver eyes and fire in her stance. Not fragile. Not afraid. “Hi,” he said hoarsely. She tilted her head slightly. “You came.” He took a step forward. “Alera, I—” “Don’t,” she said sharply. “Don’t come here with apologies. You made your choice.” Kael’s chest tightened. “I was wrong.” “You were a coward,” she corrected. “You rejected me to look strong. You threw me away to protect your ego.” He swallowed hard. “I thought I was protecting you.” Alera laughed once—cold, soft. “You don’t get to rewrite history, Kael.” He stepped closer, slower now. “You’ve changed.” “You should leave,” she said, voice low and dangerous. “Before you find out just how much.” For the first time, Kael saw it clearly—this wasn’t the girl he rejected. This was a Luna. And she didn’t belong to him anymore.
