Episode 6 : The Lone Alpha

418 Words
Alera paced the ridge, her instincts sharpening with every passing night. The scent had returned. This time, closer. No longer hiding. Whoever had been watching her now wanted to be seen. She caught the first glimpse of him just past midnight. A man stood across the trees, tall and lean, with storm-grey eyes and a scar down one side of his face. He wasn’t from Kael’s pack—she’d remember someone like that. He didn’t step closer. Just watched. Alera crossed her arms. “Are you going to keep staring, or speak?” His lips curled slightly, amused. “You’re stronger than I expected.” “Who are you?” “A ghost, to most. An Alpha without a pack. I’ve heard whispers of the Moonborn girl.” His voice lowered. “Didn’t think she’d be beautiful.” Alera didn’t flinch. “You’re not the first Alpha who’s made that mistake.” The wind stirred between them, silent and heavy. He didn’t approach further, but the heat of his gaze burned across the space. “I didn’t come to threaten you,” he said. “I came to see if you’re real.” “And now that you have?” “I’m not the only one who’s watching.” With that, he turned and vanished into the night. Alera’s heart pounded, but not in fear. She wasn’t scared of him. She was curious. And that was far more dangerous. The moon was almost full, and her body was beginning to feel it. The bond Kael tried to sever had broken in all the wrong ways—pieces still clung to her, still ached during the shift. Her wolf paced within her, restless, craving release. Selene watched her carefully. “Your first heat is coming. This one will not be like the others.” Alera shivered. “Why?” “You are no longer ordinary. A Moonborn in heat will call every unmated male within miles. Especially Alphas.” Alera clenched her jaw. “I don’t want to call anyone.” Selene’s eyes softened. “It’s not about what you want. It’s about what you are.” That night, Alera’s dreams twisted with fire and longing. Kael’s voice whispered her name. The stranger’s eyes watched her in the dark. Her body burned. Her wolf clawed for connection. She woke breathless, heart racing. She wasn’t ready for this. She wasn’t sure she ever would be. But the fire had already begun to burn. And someone would come looking for it.
