Episode 2: The Awakening

476 Words
The forest was darker now. Colder. Alera stumbled through the underbrush, clutching her side. Her breath came in ragged gasps, every step burning through her ribs — but she kept going. She couldn’t go back. There was nothing left to go back to. Rejected. Disgraced. Banned from the pack she’d called home her entire life. But something inside her had changed. It wasn’t just the pain. It was a hum beneath her skin. A vibration in her blood. Her wolf — no longer whimpering — now growled with something close to... hunger. She dropped to her knees beside the river, cupping her hands to drink. But when she caught her reflection, she froze. Her eyes. They were glowing. Silver. She scrambled back, heart pounding. That wasn’t normal — not even for werewolves. No omega had glowing eyes. No rejected mate ever survived this kind of pain and came out looking... powerful. “What’s happening to me?” A gust of wind rushed through the trees like a whisper. The leaves stirred, and for a moment, Alera swore she heard a voice carried on the breeze. “You are not what they think you are...” She stood shakily, turning toward the sound. And that’s when she saw her. A woman stood at the edge of the woods, wrapped in a silver cloak, her eyes just like Alera’s — luminous and ancient. “Who are you?” Alera asked, her voice hoarse. The woman smiled softly. “I am what you will become.” “What do you mean?” “You were never meant to be an omega,” the woman said. “You are Moonborn — the last of the hidden bloodline. And it is time you remember what you are.” Alera’s chest tightened. Her knees buckled again, not from weakness — from the flood of memories not her own. Visions of a blazing full moon, a silver crown, and a woman burning with light. The Luna of old. Alera gasped. “This… this is impossible.” The woman nodded. > “The Alpha rejected you because he couldn’t feel your power. It was locked. Buried. Hidden to protect you. But now it has awakened.” “So what do I do?” Alera whispered. You rise.” With that, the woman vanished into moonlight — like a dream breaking. But the power didn’t. It thrummed in Alera’s veins. Her pain didn’t vanish — it evolved. It no longer held her down. It became fuel. She looked back toward the mountains — where Kael’s pack still ruled. Where she had been cast out. “I was never yours to reject,” she said softly. “I’m done waiting to be chosen.” Her voice was steady now. Her heart was no longer broken. And the Luna they thought they buried… Had just been born.
