Chapter 60
David POV
I can't believe what my daughter has been doing. Sam had told her the night that she shifted that they weren't mates and that they should go on with their lives. He was kind to her, held her while she cried, and here she was yelling at the alpha's daughter. I don't get it; she has never been this way before. I don't know what has gotten into her, but I’m going to get to the bottom of this. We made it home, and I shoved her inside. Olive was in the kitchen doing whatever she did in there. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I’m a sexist pig because I'm not; I’m just a little peeved because of my daughter. Olive came out of the kitchen with a glass of orange juice in her hand. One look at me and her daughter, and she placed it down on the table.
“What’s wrong? Why does Lisa look like she just got into trouble?” That's when I told her,
“Your daughter decided that she wanted to yell at the alpha's daughter for trying to steal Sam, and then trying to fu*k the alpha that was invited to the ceremony, clearly, Sam had found his mate, and The alpha and the alphas daughter are mates, if i wouldn't had stopped the arugment, it would had ended up in blood shed,” Olive looked over at her daughter, than said something that shocked the h*ll out of me, How could she do this?”
"Didn't I tell you that Sam is a nobody, he's just a damn warrior, he's never going places, I told you to get to that alpha first, that way he could decide if he wanted you instead of his mate, haven't I taught you anything?” I knew what she was talking about, Olive tried that with me, she knew we were mates, but she wanted power, but ended up being stuck here, we learned to love each other, And I had to remind her of that,
I stepped closer to Olive, keeping my voice low but firm, the way it always got when I was trying not to lose my temper.
“And where did that get you?” I asked. “You tried to tear apart a bond that was already written in blood and soul. You chased power instead of your mate, and you nearly destroyed all of us in the process.”
Her jaw tightened, but she didn’t interrupt me.
“You knew from the moment we first locked eyes what I was to you,” I continued. “You knew, and you still chose ambition over fate. The only reason this pack is still standing is because we learned to love each other after you lost everything you were reaching for.”
Lisa’s eyes had gone wide by now, the color draining from her face as she realized her mother wasn’t the strong, untouchable woman she’d always believed. She was a mirror—one that showed exactly where this path led.
I turned my gaze to Lisa. “What you did tonight could’ve started a war. Mates are sacred. Alphas are not prizes to be stolen, and warriors are not nobodies. Every drop of blood spilled in this pack is worth the same.”
Silence fell heavy between us.
“If I hadn’t stopped you,” I said finally, “you wouldn’t just be in trouble. You’d be dead—or the reason someone else was.”
“Lisa, you’re graduating next week, honey,” her father said gently. “You told me you wanted to become a healer. Do you still want that, or do you want to chase power—power you might never have? And then one day you may realize you don’t even care about finding a mate because you were too busy chasing other things, even when you knew you shouldn’t.”
Lisa was quiet for a moment. Then she walked over and sat on the edge of the couch.
“Dad, I know I shouldn’t,” she said softly, “but I really loved Sam. But you’re right—he’s found his mate. I do want to become a healer. I’ve studied for it. I know how to heal. I’ve done it.”
“Okay then. Graduate, and then we will talk to the Alpha about you becoming one of the pack’s healers. But stay out of trouble—that’s all I ask. Be the young lady I know you know how to be. You never know… your mate might be looking for you. He might not be an Alpha, but he will love you just the same. I promise he will. You can go up to your room now. Dinner will be ready in a few hours—go rest and study your healer books.”
“Yes, sir.”
She hurried upstairs. I listened until her door shut, making sure she was far enough away that she couldn’t hear us.
“I’m telling you right now—if you ever say something like that to her again, you might not like what comes after. Is that clear? Do not w***e out our child.”
“I wasn’t whoring her out. I just want her to have a life where she doesn’t have to worry about anything.”
“Woman!” I snapped. “She is only eighteen f*****g years old. The only things she needs to worry about are graduating and becoming a damn healer. Do not make me go to the Alpha about this—because I will.”
I took a breath, forcing myself to calm down. “I love you, Olive. I truly do. But do not ever do that again… or you might not like what happens next.”
I stormed off to our room on the third floor. I knew my threats would worry her—but I also knew this wasn’t over. Olive never stopped until she got what she wanted.
