Chapter 42
Kalie-Bayley's lycan POV
When we climbed the tree, I knew he wasn't like the others, but that doesn't mean I liked him either. He was a hunter, a hunter of lycans of different kinds, a hunter of vampires - either way, he was still a hunter. When he was right under the tree I was hiding in, I jumped down right on top of him. He turned on his back to face me. I was pleased with the look of fear he gave me. He better be scared of me. I wasn't here to play nice with these hunters. I was sick of being away from my mate. Even if she doesn't like it, even if we are still not done killing these hunters, I am still going back. I want my mate, and I know she does too. She can't fight it anymore.
“Why are you after me? You're not just a hunter; you're something else. What gave you that scar? Answer me before I kill you. Do you realize we are kept from going home because of you bastards wanting to kill me? I hate every single one of you, wanting to kill my kind and then come after me, the last of my kind, you asshole.” I raised my claw to kill him. I was just inches away from his face when she screamed out.
“NO STOP!! I’M NOT HERE TO KILL YOU!!” I really wanted to kill this guy. He screamed so loud that it hurt my ears, but I stopped to listen to what he had to say. He better make it quickly, or I might just change my mind.
“I heard about you from the hunters link on the computer. I wanted to see what one looked like. I'm a vampire hunter. I got this scar from a vampire that tried to kill me.
Back there before you left the restaurant, I saw a few of the hunters tracking you. They were going to ambush you, but I killed them. I wasn't going to let them kill the last of your kind.” I was letting him talk. I could tell he was telling the truth, but I still did not trust him. Who could trust a hunter? Not I, and neither does Bayley. She is just itching to kill him. I shifted back to Bayley. She stood right in front of him. She was pissed that her spray doesn't work. She needed to get something stronger. She listened to this dipshit as he kept talking, and all we wanted was for him to leave.
‘The name is Diggs. Thanks for not killing me, but I must be on my way. It's soon to be night, vampires will be coming out, and I will need to kill them. My wife will be out soon as well. She has red hair and blue eyes. She also wears a black hat like mine and has a long scar on her left arm from a fight with a vampire. Her name is Liz. If you see her, please don't kill her; she's not out to hunt you down. I was thinking I could have some fun with this woman. She's another hunter. I could track her; I could have vampires run after her. But he didn't try to kill me, so I won't have her killed. I won't even hunt her. It's too bad; I could have some fun.
‘Listen, if you run across a pack that has an alpha named Hunter, tell him I'm still alive, that I miss him, that I will be home soon. Tell him that we will do this together. I can't be without him anymore.’ I knew he was just thinking, 'How come I couldn't tell him?" But he bowed his head, and then he was gone. I'll stay away just a few more weeks. I needed to make sure my mate, my pack, would not be harmed. I needed to keep them safe. I just needed to make sure that when I started heading back, they wouldn't be following me. That's all I wanted. I wanted them to get the message that I won't back down; I won't let them come after my family.
