Chapter 34
Hunter's POV
I knew the trackers were out there looking for her. I couldn't wait to find out if she was okay. I knew she was still alive, or I would have felt her death. It's killing me not to go out there and find her myself. That's what I should be doing - finding her myself instead of having trackers look for her. I knew she would be pissed when she finds out, and it wouldn't surprise me if she kills them, thinking they were hunters. There was knocking at the door. I grunted for them to come in. One of my guards walked inside with the trackers that Ram had sent out. They had something in their hand. Great. My guard walked out after he bowed to me. I don't know how many times I told them not to bow to me. Just shut the door. It would be fine if they didn't bow to me.
"Sir, we found her, but she wasn't too happy with us. She almost killed us, thinking we were hunters. She even said herself that we were lucky. She also sent a message and wanted me to deliver it to you."
"Do not ever send trackers to track her down again. Once she is done, she will be home. She also wanted us to give you this package." Great, she's pissed. After thanking them for doing their job, I told them that their boss would pay them. Then I dismissed them. I called Ram to let him know his trackers were on their way home. Placing the package on the desk, I didn't know what was inside. I did see some blood and smelled something rotting. What in the world did she wrap up? So I unwrapped it and opened it up. I almost jumped back when I saw what was inside the package. There was an ear with five daggers. There was a note inside.
"Dearest mate, I thought you would like a gift. This hunter killed my parents. He told me how he did it while I tortured him to death. I saved the ear for you. If you want to keep it, dry it out and then place it out in the sun to dry it out some more. It will not stink after all the blood is drained. The daggers, well, you see how many I have. I won't stop until all of them are gone, and the pack is safe. I will return.
Your mate, Bayley."
I swear this woman is crazy, but my crazy. I didn't want the ear, but I will place it somewhere so she could have it for herself. I called for one of the cleaners. I told them to preserve the ear. They knew what to do so it wouldn't rot. Then I looked at the daggers. I didn't want to clean them. I wanted her to come and do it herself. These are her prizes. I knew what I needed to do to figure out where she is at. I haven't done it in a long time, but I will find out where she is. Though she could probably see me, she might even get mad. But I needed to find out that she's okay. I'll do it after I finish the paperwork, eat something, shower, and then rest. I needed my strength for this. When I do this, it weakens me for a bit, but then I get my strength back. Well, let's get this paperwork done. I was so busy doing what I needed to do that I didn't feel the link coming through until it was late. The link was from Bayley. Oh, s**t. I opened my mind so I could hear her.
…..Bayley, the only reason why I sent them is because you left without saying bye to me. You didn't give me a chance to argue with you to keep you here. I wanted to know that you were safe. I cannot wait for you to be home so we can claim each other once more. Come home to me safely, and if not safely, then we have healers to heal you. Just come home, Bayley. We will do this together.” I shut the link off, then got done with the paperwork. I'll wait for a few more days to link her again, unless she links me back.
Heading to the kitchen, I noticed one of the cooks was still in there; he was doing something.
“Hey Rick, what are you still doing here? You need to get some rest.”
‘Yeah, I know, but I have nothing to go home to – no mate, no pups. So, I tend to stay late and get the prep done for tomorrow so no one else has to do it.” I felt bad for Rick. His mate left him because he was a cook; she rejected him and then went to another pack with her chosen mate. I mean, she's crazy – this man is an awesome cook; she's missing out. But he's also a warrior. After she left him, he asked me if he could train to become a warrior, and that's what he had done. He trains in the morning, then he comes and cooks, and then stays late. I have to force him to go home.
‘Rick, the prep is done, man. Go get some rest.”
“Yeah, you're right. I'll see you in the morning for training.”
Shaking my head, he would be up and ready for it. I'm just hoping he finds his second chance so he will stop all this late-night stuff. He needs his rest.
