Chapter 15 “What the fuck.” It was almost four A. M., and he was about to go off duty, when Shaun pulled the squad car to a stop, a few feet into the alley. Ahead of him, against a building wall, was what had, at first, looked like a discarded bedspread or quilt. Then the headlights hit it straight on. He saw a naked arm, and a bare foot. Another homeless kid, he figured, although it was pretty damned cold to be going around without shoes and socks. He got out of the car, hoping to hell whoever it was hadn’t frozen to death.
