“Nothing broken,” the doctor told Ryan, after studying the X-rays. Ryan hated to think how much they would cost him—and the visit to the ER. He’d filled out the forms a nurse gave him, listing himself as having no address, and no income, which was the truth, as of several hours ago. He did tell her he had some money in a bank account, but damned little, and that he had no ID. When she asked why, he told her very briefly what had happened—only the salient details, like his ex-lover taking his wallet after he’d beaten him. He had no intention of giving her Merrick’s name, or address. He didn’t trust the hospital not to contact him, despite what Shaun had said.
