“There you are, I’ve been looking all over for you.” Dread prickled over my skin like gooseflesh, the last voice in the world I wanted to hear assaulting me before I’d even fully closed the door to the father’s gloomy office. I turned to see Gideon striding down the hallway; determination squared his shoulders, power in every planting of his heel on the floorboards.
