Chapter 4 Anya's POV

1488 Words
" Darius" I shouted, getting up, I'm about to try and follow his retreating back. " I'd leave him if I were you" I turned to look at Cage, who was looking off in the direction Darius ran in. He looks up at me. "It's the wolf in him. He's had his animal counterpart muted all his life. We normally deal with the emotions that come with the wolf from a young age. Think teenager, but times that by ten, our wolf doesn't appear until we hit our teens. It's why my grandfather wanted him dead before he hit his teens. He couldn't risk him changing and being a silver wolf like he is". Mathew speaks up next: " What Darius is going through right now is anger and, well, next he will be horny as f*ck. Our wolves are just animals after all. They fight and they f*ck. Add that in with the fact his life has just been turned upside down and told his family , no offense Cage. Are f*cking psychopaths he's most likely feeling off the scale right now ". Cage laughs and Mathew " No offense is taken, but Mathew is right " he agrees with him. I look back the way Darius went and concentrate on our link. Before he'd disappeared, I'd felt agitation, so I'd tapped in. He was actually upset over us all being happy while he was so confused and upset. It was silly, we were just all taking a minute to be here, we hadn't forgotten his problems. Sighing, I sit down with my head in my hands. "It's not just that, he feels we don't care about his turmoil. His anger must be making him not think clearly. He thought we were all too happy while he was falling apart ". The table turns silent. Looking up, I see what everyone's thinking: that he's a dumb selfish sh*t. I slide my eyes towards Dante and his jaws ticking, eyes flashing red as he looks off in the distance. For Darius to think that upsets everyone here, I know it does. But for him to think that of Dante would be like a massive blow. They are like brothers. Dante was gone too. In the blink of an eye, I turned my head just to see a blurry object disappear through the woods. "Sh*t . . . .sh*t " Killian jumped up and so did the rest of the men. " What ?" Sophie asked and they looked at her dumbfounded. Kristophe speaks up " What would your mate be doing chasing after him ? After he was just told, Darius thinks he didn't care ". You literally see it drop, and her hand lifts to her mouth. "He will be beating the sense into him," she says, worriedly. The last time they'd truly gone at each other with anger, they'd both been battered and bruised. "Don't worry, we will go and pull them apart if it gets out of hand " Cole says, leaning down and kissing Hailey's cheek, then they take off all of them. Sitting back in my chair deflated, I looked up to the sky. The truth was, I didn't know how to help him. I like my life planned out and in order always have done. Which was odd given I was raised by my flighty kind of hippy parents. They'd pick me up early from school and whisk me off to some weird destinations, never knowing when we were returning. Dad could run his business anywhere. Maybe that's why, to start with, it was fun, but then I missed out on building actual friendships with people. It became where I hated it. Maybe that's why I liked order. In school, I had friends, but I would never really get invited along to places or become anyone's best friend. Too unreliable. That's why, when I got to college, I'd seen Sophie looking lost, so I'd clung to her. She looked as lost as I felt. I think she sees it as the other way around, but it really wasn't. It was the first time my parents couldn't whisk me away. I needed her. I was old enough to live on my own. So the fact that my mate's life seems so unorganized. I got it, I'd be a mess too. Hell, I was a mess when I first came here. My life had changed so much a mate, then a witch. Now it was my mate's turn. They are right. The fates definitely matched your with your perfect other half. " Darius, it'll all work out. I know you feel confused right now, but none of us would leave you to fight this alone". I tried to send the message through our link. It went unanswered. The more I thought about it, the more it pissed me off. Wolf or not, he was being a selfish prick. Sitting back up, I started plating my food up and then digging in. Looking up, I see my sister's wide eyes and worried faces. " What ?" I ask. "If he wants to go play selfish prick victim instead of turning to his family and his mate, then so be it. I hope Dante kicks the sh*t out of him ". The girls nervously giggle and slowly go back to eating. Conversations slowly start back happening, and I'm quick to join in. After I ask if any of the girls want to hit the gym , Sophie says yes and so does Charlotte, but the others are enjoying the sun too much. Not bothering with going upstairs, I headed straight towards the gym and magic a change of clothes. Sophie does the same for her and Charlotte. Charlotte hits the treadmill at a speed that I still think is too slow for her. " Do you even need to work out as a vampire ?" I ask curiously. She looks at me and grins, not out of breath or anything, no sweat. She's not even concentrating on her legs and shrugs. " Not really, but I like to. It's a good way to clear the mind and release some pent-up energy. You've seen men battle the darkness. Imagine a woman trying to ,with our nature and mood swings, poor Michael" she giggles. True, I'd never thought of that, hopping on the treadmill at a much slower pace than her. My mind wanders as my feet pound onto the belt. We moved from one exercise to the other, even doing a bit of sparring with Charlotte. By the time it was done, I'd worn out my legs like jello, and I was a sweaty mess. " You coming? " Sophie says, walking out with Charlotte. " I'll be up in a sec. I'm going to shower down here " I tell her. I can tell she's about to turn back around. She knows me and knows when something is wrong. But I shoo her away with my hands. She gives me a pointed stare. I know I'll get drilled later. She won't let me be silent for long. I salute her, and she walks out of the room, rolling her eyes, struggling to stand up on shaky legs. I headed towards the showers. Passing through the pool area, I looked at the water glimmering and shinning. It's like it calls to me and I can't resist it. Dropping the towel, I head to the water's edge, looking down into the bottom of the pool. Lifting a hand, I call the water to me, it lifts like it has its own body. A silhouette of water stood before me. Moving my head to one side, the water moves with me, then the other. An image that repeats in my head flashes in my mind. It's the image of a large wolf with silver fur and dark eyes. The water moves and changes until in front of me stands its image. It towers above me on four paws, its head huge and dominating. An image of Darius taking off assaults me next. The wolf collapses and the water crashes back into the pool and on the sides. Anger sweeps me again. Storming off, I pick up my towel. My mind made up that I'd wait for him, and then I was going to give him a piece of my mind. Haven't we been with each other long enough now to where he should choose me to comfort him? But he doesn't. He always runs. Always tries to face his demons on his own, and I was about done with it. I was going to straighten him out, and then we would pay Bridie another visit. The b***h could either step down or be beat down either way. We were sorting it out and soon. I was ready to start living this new crazy life I had unorganized and all.
