Alex stood, the glow of power in his eyes fading as he took a breath. Shaking his head, he groaned and looked around, recognising what had become his permanent room at The Last Stop. He felt the tension drain from him and breathed a sigh of relief. He wondered how much time he’d lost and what he’d been up to. He’d been here so often now it was almost like home. A sanctuary. Which was silly since it was nothing, only a single bedroom with plain stone walls, and a small wash basin in the corner and a shuttered window looking down into the courtyard below and over to the forest beyond.
