Adelia's POV
"Cad, I am still unsure about this" I muttered to my friend tenth time that day while shifting uneasily on the armchair.
"Whatever you say Ade, this is just perfect!"
A fat tall man with a face that was good looking at some point and a broken nose passed a flying kiss to the play script in his hands, "I love this. It's going to be a hit. And you Adelia", he fixated his small black eyes at me, "will be my biggest superstar."
Pushing my glasses, that had slipped on my nose, back again, I stared at my friend sitting on the opposite side of the wooden table in utter disbelief.
"I only write books because I enjoy writing them and I chose your company as a platform to polish my talent" I began, "I don't remember agreeing to convert my books into movies."
"Oh Adelia" he said, putting the play script on the table and raising his hands to the back of his head before snuggling in the chair, "you are impossible. You won't understand these things now. You are too young-"
"I am twenty eight, Cad" I interrupted him, "you call that young?"
"Yes my love", he said and I sighed loudly.
"Can you please stop calling me that?" My eyebrows raised at him.
"Calling you what?" he asked, a smirk plastered over his face.
I stood up violently from the armchair blocking the sun rays coming from the window behind as I overshadowed Cad.
"Leaving already baby cakes?" he asked, still sitting lazily on his armchair.
"Yes. I have to meet up with Anna after this" I said ignoring his cheesy words and grabbing my car keys from the table.
"I will see you tonight and discuss this matter further."
"Actually not tonight" he answered quite immediately.
I gave him a questioning look and he answered, "I have a really important meeting tonight. You can come tomorrow if that's okay with you."
"Cool" I replied, secretly happy I wouldn't have to bear him again that day.
I was about to leave when he said, "Adelia, will you still not go out with me?"
I sighed, my head boiling up, while forcefully pulling my skirt down to hide my legs because that's exactly where he was staring it. What a pervert.
"No" I replied "I told you before. I can't and won't."
"But why?" he asked as if it wasn't the first time I was rejecting him. I could feel him sitting up straight in his chair, "we have been working together since forever and I have been helping with your books for quite a while. Why do you still hate me?"
I turned around just to find him giving me an angry look.
"Listen up for the last time", I replied sharply "you are the guy who cheated on my best friend in HER house on HER bed. If that doesn't make you sick enough, you got a girl from our university pregnant and ditched her. And I am not even working for you. I used to work for your uncle before he passed away and now I have to put up with you. Don't make me quit this company!"
He chuckled.
"Now Adelia", he folded his arms, "we both know you can't quit this company. You don't have the money to survive on your own or pay your house rent. You'd be on the streets." And no other company will sign a contract with you since you broke ours."
I grunted and without further ado, made my way outside his office, slamming the door real hard. I could hear him laughing which made me hate him even more.
I would've quit this company a long time ago if it wasn't for the goddamn four years contract I signed with Mr. Clinton. I wished he had mentioned he was going to die two years later and Cad would replace him. I would've starved than signing the contract then.
Cad's room opened into the hallway with an elevator at one end next to a staircase and a big balcony at the other. The texture was pretty much golden and red with a little blue at some points. The balcony was pretty big for a typical balcony with an impressive view of the streets
.
I walked my way to the elevator, studying the historical portraits for writers, philosopher and the amazing people who were no longer in this world nor could ever be replaced.
"Miss Adelia!" I heard someone's cry behind me before excited footsteps thundered my way. I turned just in time to see a young girl panting hard in front of me.
"Hey Jane", I said "where did you turn up from?"
"I was at the balcony waiting for you to come out" she answered between long gasps.
"What's the event?" My eyes studied the usually hooded girl's sexy tight dressing.
"Huh?" she c****d an eyebrow and I had to point at her blue deep v-neck dress. She was also wearing tons of makeup.
She smiled cheekily at this, standing up and pushing a tuft of her black hair behind her ear.
"Someone really important is coming today" she began, waving her hands in a very unnatural way.
"Really?" I asked "and who is this important person that you are so dressed up for?"
Her cheeks flushed crimson red.
"Jackson Grey."
Somehow the name seemed very familiar to me.
"Who is he?" I asked her out of curiosity.
She started twiddling her thumbs which showed her extreme nervousness.
"He is the CEO of Black Wings Bank and a billionaire", she spoke carefully and in a very low voice, "he is the most powerful man in the country and he is so damn hot."
I made a disgusted face at this.
"Is it the hotness or the money?"
"It's a pack of two."
I rolled my eyes.
"No wonder Cad is busy tonight. He is having a meeting with him, right?" I asked.
"Yes" Jane nodded "and I am going to be his guide around."
Jane then looked at her mobile phone screen and muttered, "he is going to be here any minute now."
"You should probably go then" I said turning around, "I better skip the commotion."
"Oh and before you go" Jane leant in, pushing her boobies up, "do I look hot?"
"Do I have to answer that!" I complained, stomping my feet impatiently "you know you are hot. Just try keeping to being a guide only."
She winked before giving me a short hug.
"See you", I waved at her.
She waved back before rushing away down the staircase.
I made my way to the elevator since I was on the fifth floor and had no intention to use the stairs.
I clicked the up button and waited for the elevator to come up. It made its usual ting tong note and a female voice greeted me trough the speakers. Even though I knew it was default system sound, I loved answering it.
"Hello" it spoke.
"Hey there" I answered before entering the elevator.
Luckily it was empty. I pressed the ground floor button and the elevator started descending. A soft romantic music started which in addition to the air conditioner soothed me a lot. I stared at the number of floors as it went down. Five... Four... Three...
The elevator suddenly stopped. For a moment, I panicked, thinking it had a break down. But turned out someone stopped the elevator at third floor.
Damn, I thought, a guy entered followed by two men. Just as he entered, a strong perfume filled the elevator and I was left gaping at him.
He was wearing sun glasses and a black three piece suit. His hair were combed back perfectly and his shoes were shining like diamond. Even though I couldn't see his eyes, I knew he had a perfect ones. He was much taller than me and very bold looking.
The other two men seemed to be working for him. One of them raised his fingers to click first floor where there was a coffee shop. The lift started moving and the music started again.
"Sir, I think you should tell Mr. Cad you are here", the other man said.
"He will know about it himself" the man replied and damn his voice was very deep and sexy.
"Are you sure?" the man asked again "we had reached the third floor until you suddenly changed your mind."
"I really need a drink" he replied "or I swear I will doze off."
"I know I am no one to say this", the first man spoke for the first time, "but you should stop spending your whole nights with your girlfriend and have some quality sleep."
"Yes" he answered, his face looking up straight, expressionlessly, "you are no one to say this."
Ashamed, the two men backed away and the man just stood there, his one hand in his pocket. He didn't look at me neither did his workers. The three of them seemed to mind their own business. All this time I was standing in a corner like a tiny girl who wanted to stay out of trouble.
My eyes occasionally travelled along his sharp jawline and broad shoulders. They looked very tempting.
"I won't be staying at the coffee shop" he finally spoke to his men after a couple of seconds, "you guys get me my drink and we will be off. I am not ready for any commotion."
Wow, I thought, talk about self confidence.
The elevator doors suddenly opened and the businessman stepped out and was immediately greeted by squeals of girls.
"Yes, Mr. Jackson", his men quietly said before they followed him outside and the lift doors closed.
Saying that I was shocked would be an understatement; I was petrified. That guy who I shared the lift with was none other than JACKSON GREY, the CEO and the billionaire Jane was talking about.
She was right though, he was so hot.
Wait! What are you thinking! Snap out of it! I scolded myself but was still at lost. No wonder all the girls went crazy about him; but he did seem a bit proud and conceited. I wondered if he would ever be interested in someone like me.
He has a girlfriend, my mind reminded me how I was destined stay single and I had to shake the thought off.
The lift doors finally opened at the ground floor.
Phew!
That was one of the longest lift rides I ever had. I walked outside, greeted by many people as usual. Most of them were engaged in talking about the billionaire, mainly girls. I decided to walk out and get some time with my best friend, Anna. Yeah, that would be great! At least, I wouldn't be bumping into billionaire's anymore.
