Three days passed and I didn't hear anything from anyone. That was probably because I didn't step out of the house for three whole f*****g days. I was very afraid some cameramen and news reporters would be standing right outside; waiting for me to show my face and then bombard me with questions about leaving the studio.
The news had already been out the day I left by one of the studio coworkers and thing could not get worse.
My life was a living hell; I was miserable, lost, lonely, couldn't concentrate and my eyes were hurting because of crying all night. My whole carrier, life and friends broke apart just because of a d**k-head billionaire. I was broken.
On the evening of the third day exiling myself in my home, I staggered towards the kitchen. I had sent all of my workers home and was alone. There was a soft pitter patter of raindrops crashing on the windows as I entered the kitchen. I was in my pjs, my hair tied in a knot on top of my head. I made myself a cup of hot coffee and sat down next to the large glass window staring out to my backyard as the rain attacked the grass.
After three days I was ready to enjoy and for sometime forgot about everything that occurred in the past few days. It turned out to be a pretty good idea and soon I had my legs crossed, sipping down the third cup of coffee. I knew too much caffeine was not good for my health but that was the least I cared about.
The raindrops started falling faster and soon I could hear them bombing on the rooftop. A feeling of frigidness developed in me and all I wanted was to cuddle up and go to sleep. Unfortunate for me, that did not quite happen.
As I was leaving the kitchen, my mobile phone started ringing. I looked at the caller id saying Kevin before attending it.
"Hey Kev" I said, walking into the living room and finding a place to sit as most of it was covered with drinks and pizza boxes which I never bothered to clean up.
"God, Adelia are you okay?" his concerned voice came from the other side.
"Yeah" I said, trying to act normal, "what could go wrong?"
"Adelia" he spoke, "everyone knows you left the studio..."
"Is that suppose to make me not okay?"
"YES! Are you insane? How can you leave something you have been working in since the beginning of your career?"
"Dude calm down" I said, tossing on the wheel armchair, "I have reasons..."
"Does fighting with Anna counts as one of them?"
"How did you-"
"Open the front door."
"Wait what?"
"OPEN the freaking door, Ade. It is raining and I am f*****g freezing here!"
Confused, I walked to the front door and opened it to reveal a young man. He was hugging himself and his brown hair were all over his eyes.
"What the hell, Kev" I cried, very surprised to see my friend soaked from head to toe "get inside."
"Thank you very much" he snarled as he stepped inside, "don't mind my wet shoes. And what were you thinking before turning the bell off!"
I giggled softly as he made his way to the living room, shivering badly.
"I will go get you some coffee" I told him and hurried inside the kitchen.
A few seconds later I heard a loud noise from the living room followed by "what the heck have you been up to Adelia! Where exactly am I supposed to sit, on the pizza boxes?"
"Sit wherever you find some space" I half-yelled to him.
Then there was silence suggesting he found a place to sit. I, however, did not feel ashamed of my current hygiene status.
Moments later, I went into the living room with two cups of hot coffee. Yup, I was having my fourth cup in one hour.
"Huh?" I stopped in surprise when I saw the living room empty "where did he go?"
My eyes searched for my friend but the couches were empty.
"Down here" I heard a low whisper. I looked down and had to control myself not to burst out laughing as I saw the twenty nine year old Kevin, sitting down on the floor, hugging his knees with his head resting over them like any nine year old.
"What are you doing down there?" I asked, a smirk plastered over my face.
"This seems to be the only place with some space" he snapped, looking annoyed.
He was acting so cute, it actually made me laugh and almost spilling the coffee on him.
"Whoa woman! What's wrong with you?" he asked backing away to avoid the coffee spilling on him "first I have to soak for ten minutes in the rain, then I am given a floor to sit on and now you are trying to burn me with coffee. What are you? A psychopath?"
My whole body was shaking as I stored the laughter inside. My face had gone red and even Kevin noticed and grinned. I pushed the mug in his hands and put mine on the floor before I burst into laugher.
Kevin was a hot tempered, funny and wild best friend of mine whom I had known for a long time. He had always been an elder brother for me who had stood up with me during hard times.
We didn't meet up often, though. He lived in the other city and would seldom visit so I was very surprised to see him.
"Where's Mary and Ellen?" I asked him, "did they not come with you?"
"They did but they are at Mary's brothers place. They both wanted to meet you so bad but were very busy."
I smiled softly. Mary was Kevin's wife and the most caring and loving person I had ever met. I was glad they both found each other and leaded a happy life. They both had a daughter Ellen and she was the most cutest child I knew.
"How's work?" Kevin was a lawyer.
"Just got off a case last week" he replied, "it was a feud over property."
I shook my head.
"Anyways" Kevin said as I settled down next to him "how are you?"
"Great" I lied.
"You're lying" he said.
"No" I lied again.
He was staring at my face and grinning.
"You can lie but your red eyes, black eye bags and hair that haven't been combed for days reveal it all."
I gave out a loud defeated sigh. Kevin took a sip from his mug before speaking "look Adelia, I talked to Anna earlier today and she told me that you both were not talking and something like that. But she refused to tell the details. And social media is blasting with news of you leaving your studio without any reason-"
"There IS a reason" I answered.
"What is it?" he asked, narrowing his eyes at me.
I stared inside my cup, preparing a reply.
"Don't even think of lying to me."
"I wasn't..."
"You can lie all you want, but your face doesn't."
"Shut the f**k up."
Kevin gave a soft laugh and spoke "I am listening".
I sighed before telling him everything as briefly as I could.
"So couple of days ago, Jackson Grey turned up at my studio for some business with Cad. Turned out he wanted to...marry me-"
"Who wants to marry who?" Kevin interrupted, his eyes looking at me queerly.
"Jackson Grey, the devil billionaire told Cad he wanted to MARRY me" I said out loud as anger boiled up inside me at thinking about all that.
"Are you sure?" he asked, drinking his coffee "Jackson Grey has a girlfriend."
"I know" I replied "I seriously have no idea what hit him in his head."
"Go on" he said, motioning me to continue.
"But when Cad told me, I didn't believe him and made fun of him and then he got a bit mad..."
"Cad likes you, right?"
I scowled before answering "yes. And that's where things got bad. He was trying to harass-"
Tears welled up in my eyes as the memory came back. Kevin, however, had heard enough. He stood up, his eyes burning with anger that even shook me.
"Did that son of a b***h dare touch a hair on your head?" he said through gritted teeth.
I nodded, wiping away my tears.
"He. Is. So. Dead." he said in a very angry voice.
"Kevin calm down" I spoke softly, "he stopped ."
"He just needs to be taught some manners" Kevin replied firmly "and I am going to teach and don't try to stop me. First he cheated on Anna and now he is abusing you. I am gonna beat some sense into him"
.
I silenced up. That was one disadvantage of having short tempered friends; they won't compromise when they get mad.
"And now I am guessing Anna saw that and that's why you two don't talk anymore" he completed.
His face was bright red and his fists were so clenched I could see his veins.
I whispered a small "yeah".
"Well" he said after a moment, "I am leaving now. I now know all I wanted to."
"Won't you have some dinner?" I asked, trying to calm him down and of course, attempting to stop him to go a whip Cad's ass.
"I am fine" he said sternly "right now, look out for a new studio to work in. I am sure many would want a talented girl like you. And" he said looking at me one last time before pulling something out of his pockets. It was a half wet paper envelope.
"Saw it on top of your mailbox while I was coming" he handed it over to me before turning to leave "thanks for the coffee, see you."
"Good bye" I said not bothering to stand up "say hi to Marry from me."
Once Kevin closed the front door, I sighed with relief. Cad's in trouble now. I secretly regretted telling him because there was no telling what he would do when he was angry. Also, I knew him long enough to bother to stop him as it would have been useless. The least I could do was to pray for Cad to run for his life on time.
Then, I looked at the envelope and examined it carefully. It was half wet and half dry. On a corner I saw the sender's and receiver's name saying:
To: Adelia Carter Jones
From: Jackson Michael Grey.
