Samantha’s pov
The witches sat in front of Axel and me. Their eyes cast low as I glared at them for several minutes. They didn’t know it yet, but they were in line to be executed. The vampires who were captured with them were killed within hours of being brought to the dungeons of the northern palace. We didn’t want any explanation for the things they did. They were captives of war, and death was the only suitable penalty.
Execution was delayed only for the vampire queen, whose end was still assured. Eventually, she too would die. There were talks among the commoners. Some of them felt that the baby wasn’t worth saving. He was our enemy. Though currently blameless, his coming of age would greatly increase the likelihood of war in the future.
