Chapter 2: Pack links

ALPHA HADES. Recently I have been feeling a pull or a push. I don’t know which exactly it is but it is something ominous. I reached out within me to search for where this feeling is coming from but nothing so far. There is something coming.  For decades my family have been entrusted with a magical secret and no one out of the circle of trusted wolves know the secret of the Crown family. But I can tell you that This makes me connected to the Earth and all her children in one ways than one that’s why when a force as strong as the one I feel now gets in contact with my land I feel it.  “What’s wrong? How’s that?” I call out turning around to watch the guards pull up a young lad. He is breathing like he has been running for a long time and just recently stopped to catch his breathe.  “Alpha, this is Daren. He is one of the day patrol watchers. He has news.” Freyo says.  “Let him through.” I tell them and they let the you f boy through.  He looks like he is in his early twenties. His brown short hair is tousled and I guess from the wind and all the running he did, his eyes are bright honey with wonder and a tingle of excitement. He is thrilled. I can feel the youthful exuberance in him. He is fascinated and over eager. Interesting qualities in the young because it makes them serve more but sometimes it can get in the way of the rational thinking.  “What do you have for me Daren?” I ask him watching him closely. I find it that a lot of people tell more with their faces and dispositions than what comes out of their lips.  “Alpha, I was patrolling the borders as I usually do. Well I and my partner Holden from the house of Jaghion. We were both doing our normal rounds ans were about to retire when I felt. The inclination to check around once more and that’s when we stumbled on something or someone. She was huddled to the floor covered in blood and barely alive.” He says.  My ears perk up immediately. ‘She?’ What’s up with that?  “You found a barely alive woman at the border??” I ask him to be very clear. “Yes Alpha. Holden took her to the clinic immediately so she didn’t die . I don’t know if she conscious now but Jen is tending to her wounds. I found this on her Alpha.” He says and stands to move to me.  He takes a quick step and two of my guards are on him pronto.  “Woah woah. I am just handing this to the Alpha. I am harmless.” He says.  I just give him a straight look. If he wanted to attack me she wouldn’t of gotten two seconds in I would have snuffed the life out of him before he even blinked.  I motion for one of the guards to collect what is in his hands and bring to me. He collects it and brings it over dropping it on my outstretched hands.  It is an amulet. The most unique thing i have seen in years and trust me I have seen a lot of wild and unreal stuffs in my years. It is shaped like the moon but within it there is a sun and lots of small stones that appear like clouds rising up and then settling into precious stones. Unique and rare to see. “What did this girl look like?” I ask him.  “She was covered in blood so I can’t give a full description alpha. But she was very small in size compared to our women here which makes me think she might still be a little girl and not a woman after all.” He says.  “Okay. Thanks Daren. I will have a word with your patrol leaders about this. You did well.” I tell him.  He is grinning obviously elated to be recognized for his good deeds. Standing to his knees he walks out of the room.  “What do you think about that Xan?” I ask.  “I think we need to check this girl out ourselves before we do anything. This will not be the forts time our enemies have tried to infiltrate our pack and i must admit, if this a new way then it is very smart of them. They are getting smarter but stupid. We are going to figure out who this girl is and what her purpose is here too.” He says.  Xan Bale, my second in command and the commander of the Crescent army. He is always present with me except when he is out on an assignment and he is the one who chooses to always lay wait in the shadows and observe. He is so slick and silent that he can be here watching and without anyone knowing that is except me. I can always feel his presence before I even see him. There is a tell and there is a connection.  “Yes. But first send words to the doctor that once she’s conscious I should be alerted at once so I can come and check her out.  “Okay.” He says as he moves silently out of the hall.  My mind is racing. My father Deros Crown was a mean old man but he wanted me to know everything he knew about the kingdom and how to properly run it so he taught me and had scholars come in to teach me on our heritage and the way of the world that includes strange activities like this one and amulets like this often tell secrets. I wonder what secrets they harbor. Standing from the seat I walk out to the hallways watching my people move around their daily activities. I built this pack back up when everything fell apart and now no matter the series of attacks launched by my enemies they can never succeed. If this girl turns out to be a spy then she will soon find out that there are some things worse than death.
