The next day, Anna woke at the sound of her alarm. She smiled when she noticed sunlight peeking through her blinds, and she got up and opened the blinds, welcoming the sunlight into her room. Anna smiled as the sunlight bathed her face. She opened the window and took a deep breath. She had never felt more alive than she did at that moment.
She walked into the bathroom to get ready for the day and afterward got Olive ready for school. They had breakfast, and then she went to drop Olive off at her new school.
"Mom, will the new school like me?"
"Of course, dear, they are going to fall in love with you once they see you." Olive looked unconvinced.
"Okay, mommy."
The cab driver pulled into Olive’s school, but Olive refused to step out.
"Hey, honey, we have talked about this already; they are going to love you."
Anna took her to the principal's office, and after everything was sorted out, Olive was asked to follow her teacher, but she refused to move.
"Mommy, can’t I go with you?"
"No baby, please do this for mommy, okay?"
"Okay, mommy." Olive hugged her mom and then followed her teacher to her classroom.
"I am so sorry for the delay," Anna said to the cab driver.
"It's okay, Ma, let’s go."
The cab took her to the Carousel Group. Anna got out of the cab and took a moment to admire the skyscraper in front of her. The ambiance of the company gave off a rich, soothing feeling.
It was Carousel Group’s seasonal recruitment, and the company was crowded with people. Anna prayed that she would be lucky enough to land a job at the company. The carousel company’s lobby was filled with many glowing lights and glasses. Anna saw her reflection on the wall and the pristine tile floor. She met the receptionist who directed her to where the interview was taking place.
Anna was still lost in the awe of the building when she noticed that the door to the elevator close to her was closing.
"Hey, wait a minute!" Anna yelled and ran towards the elevator just before it closed.
"I’m so sorry, I came for... Argh!"
Anna rushed in but lost her balance and lunged forward. Out of instinct, she grabbed onto the next thing, or rather, a person, available to her hand to steady herself.
Unfortunately for Anna, what she grabbed was not a thing but a person, and not just any part of a person but the person’s muscular butt!
David hissed furiously, and Anna yanked her head and looked up. Her nose bumped into the man’s crotch. And Anna was instantly dazzled by his manly scent and the mint scent from him.
"Who are you?" Why did you take the VIP elevator? Gabe asked and cast a disparaging look at Anna.
"I’m sorry. "I'm here for an interview, and I’m in a hurry." Anna tried to stand upright, but her long, curly hair got caught in David’s zip. The minute she felt the pain in her scalp, she knelt. And she happened to bury her head between David's thighs. When she realized the awkward position she was in, she felt more embarrassed and apologized to David.
"I’m sorry; I didn’t do it on purpose."
The elevator fell into absolute silence, and one could hear a pin drop. Anna kept struggling to untangle her hair from David’s zip, but all her effort was futile. His assistant, manager, and secretary couldn’t help chuckling at the situation, but they became silent when David shot them a glare that was enough to scorch their skin.
David was furious and tense; he found the situation absurd. In his entire thirty-four years of living, it was the first time something ridiculous happened to him and he didn’t know how to handle it. Aside from being furious, he was embarrassed.
"I’m sorry." Anna swallowed hard, sweating profusely.
"… "Can you give me a hand?"
Anna tried desperately to untangle her hair. However, the moment she moved, her hair got more tightly entangled with David’s zip. Anna panicked so much that her palms began sweating.
The way her hot breath fanned his d**k felt so familiar like he had been with her before, but David could not recall where or when they met. David felt something that he had never felt after that night he had with the mysterious girl who had given birth to his son. A bulge began to appear in David's pants.
I have to do something very quickly before I embarrass myself in front of my subordinate because of this woman! David thought and then captured Anna’s hand to stop her from touching him.
He pressed Anna’s head, stopping her from moving.
"Stop moving and stay still," David spoke with a husky voice that David could recognize as his own. "f**k! This woman is determined to embarrass me." David muttered under his breath. He lowered his head and began untangling her hair carefully.
Anna felt that his voice was very familiar; it was the same voice that had haunted her dreams a few years before she gave birth. Suddenly her mind wandered to the night she slept with the strange man. "Don’t move; just relax." He spoke softly.
Although she could not see that man’s face clearly because of the dark room, she recalled his voice like it happened yesterday.
"Relax, it won’t hurt later." Those were his exact words before he slammed hard, burying all of himself in her.
The erotic scenes of that night submerged her mind, and they made her blush. Gosh! What is wrong with me?! Why did I suddenly think of the night five years ago?
"You can get up now," he said grimly after freeing himself from her hair. Anna stood up and tried to brush her hair down with her hands.
"Thank You!" She said with all amount of sincerity. David’s eyes grew more glacial, and his disinterest in whatever Anna was trying to say was evident in her icy eyes.
Anna took a good look at David’s appearance for the first time since she got into the elevator.
David wore a well-tailored business suit. He was tall and handsome. Yet he looked so cold and aloof.
"Miss…" Gabe called Anna, giving her a grubby look.
"So, you were in a hurry to flirt with Mr. Wellington, right?" "This is a reminder to you, Mr. Wellington is way out of your league, so next time, try your dirty little ticks elsewhere."
Anna was mortified at Gabe's accusation. And the visage on David’s face when Anna turned to look at him to see what he had to say about Gabe’s accusation spoke of outright disgust.
David thought that Anna was indeed there to seduce him and that she might have staged everything to get him to notice her. Over the years, countless women tried their best to attract and even seduce him. However, after that incident five years ago, David was not interested in any other woman. During the past five years, the only woman that he had slept with was his son’s birth mother.
When David realized that Anna was trying to get his attention, he became very icy. He was upset that she almost fooled him. And at the thought that Anna had nearly made him have a hard-on in front of others, his eyes were filled with contempt and disgust.
Anna tried to defend herself as she sensed the disgust in David’s glacial eyes.
"Do you believe that I tried to seduce you in front of everyone here and in an elevator of all places to seduce someone?" What happened was a mistake and nothing more! "Why are you staring at me like that?"
She said this while looking at David, who had a phlegmy look on his face.
Anna thought that David should have been more understanding of her situation. "I can’t believe I just thanked you for helping me untangle my hair from the bottom of my heart!" Anna muttered to herself.
"Gabe, press the button," Wayne said sternly and ignored Anna.
Gabe pressed the button on the next floor.
"Miss, please exit the elevator." Please stop using this trick to get close to Mr. Wellington again. "Mr. Wellington is way out of your league," Gabe spoke to Anna in the most odious way possible. Everyone else gave Anna a disdainful glare.
"Oh, please, I didn’t." Anna tried to explain, but Gabe insisted that she step out.
"Please miss; step out of this elevator to avoid more embarrassment."
Anna gritted her teeth, glared at David, and mumbled as she left, "Who does he think he is?" Why in the hell does he think that I would "flirt" with him? "What a cheap gigolo!"
Gabe heard what Anna said, and by the stoic expression on David's face, he heard what Anna said about him.
Gabe couldn’t believe what he heard; nobody had ever tried to insult his boss in that manner, because most people cower at his presence, yet someone had the nerve to say that to David.
David could not help thinking about what Anna said to him. Somehow, he felt curious about her. So that woman almost made me a fool if my assistant had not pointed out her scheme. She used her hair to get my attention and then called me a cheap gigolo afterward. Alright, miss, I will show you just how cheap a gigolo I can be. Wait until you see me at the interview. David thought with a smirk on his face.
It's been a long time since I had fun; I might as well have one today.
"Gabe, call Karl and tell him that I’ll attend the interview at 10 o’clock."
"Yes, Mr. Wellington, but you have a meeting at..."
"Cancel it; I want to have some fun today, it being quite a lot, and there is something quite interesting awaiting me at the interview today and I can’t afford to miss it."
Minutes later, Anna arrived at the waiting room; her anger had dissipated, and in its place was nervousness. Her palms were sweaty, and she fought the urge to wipe them on her skirt.
"You are strong, Anna; you can do this for yourself and most especially for Olive." Anna was surprised at the number of applicants that were there for the interview, and she was almost discouraged because most of them had what she didn’t have, but she decided to give it a try anyway.
While waiting for the interview to kick off, she heard someone say,
"Hey, do you know that Mr. Wright, the CEO of the Carousel Group, will be attending the interview today?" Normally, he wouldn’t care to take part in interviews like this. But this time, he will interview us in person. Gosh! I’m about to meet him in person! "I'm so excited!"
"Yeah! Me too. "I wonder if he’s as handsome as others told me."
Anna almost wanted to reprimand them like the mom that she was, but she decided that it wasn’t any of her business. She wondered if they were more interested in the interview or the CEO.
