When I walk into the hospital, I feel completely lost. Snagging a nurse, I ask where I can find Ash. “And your relationship to the patient?” she asks in a dry, unimpressed tone. “He’s my boyfriend. He was just brought in not too long-“ “Sorry, dear,” she interrupts, not sounding the least bit sorry. “It’s family only allowed.” She walks off without another word, and I stare after her with my mouth hanging open. I can feel myself cracking. The adrenaline of the attack had carried me this far, but now I just feel tired and miserable. I need to see Ash. I need to prove to myself that he’s ok.
