A Bump in the Night
Lydia
“Hi. I am Lydia. I work as a waitress and I am in my second year of college, majoring in classic literature. My mom is the bartender at the Rosa and my dad works at the Grease Monkey Garage downtown. Umm… sorry I don’t really have much else to share.” I said awkwardly. I hated these dates. Family and friends were always trying to set me up with someone. This guy seemed like a real winner. He had bulging muscles and a military haircut. He seemed more interested in the waitress than me, and I was okay with that. While he was not bad to look at, he lacked in the intelligence department.
Being a vampire it is hard to meet someone. And apparently I am picky. Humans are a no go for me. I hate that they all think we are either sparkly, like from Twilight or determined to drink all the blood and murder innocents like Dracula. Because vampires have such long lives it is difficult to find someone willing to commit to anything other than s*x.
“Yeah, uh, I just joined up with the vamp-unit 12. And I spend my free time partying or working out.” He said still staring at the waitress.
“Listen, I am not feeling the greatest and I know that you came out as a favor of Rya but I am just going to head home.” I said trying to make a graceful exit from the situation. But the look of shock on his face was apparent.
“Ok. I will give you a call and we can reschedule sometime soon. Rya wasn’t lying when she said that you were gorgeous.” He said with a wink at me.
“Ok.” I replied sliding off my chair and heading for the door.
I got in the car and turned the music up loud as I was driving home.
“R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Find out what it means to me
R-E-S-P-E-C-T”
I sang along with the music as I sped down the familiar backroads toward home, trying to kill time so that my parents wouldn’t know that yet another date had been ended in the first 15 minutes. They mean well, I know that. They just want me to be happy and not alone.
In the headlights of my car I see an animal and slam on the brakes and veer to miss it. But it is too late. I hear the thud as my car makes contact, and the shift as my car goes over the body of the poor animal.my car comes to a halt, and I hold onto the steering wheel and calm myself for a few minutes. I decided I need to make sure that the animal is not suffering and open my car door. I step out and the scent hit me in the face, werewolf. But it cannot be! This is vampire territory. I was debating on calling someone when the wolf picked his head up and made eye contact with me.
His eyes were two swirling golden pools. He was enormous. And his fur was so well camouflaged in the dark, being jet black. He whimpered and started to stand. “What do I do? What are you doing here? You aren’t suppose to be here!” His response was to push his muzzle against my hand and walk over to my open car door, jumping in and moving to the passenger seat. I heard the vampire scream in the distance and knew that they were after him.
“What am I going to do?” I asked, looking as if he could respond. “I guess we better get moving?” And the wolf sat down as I put my car in drive. You could tell that my driving made him uneasy, he whimpered every time we went around a turn. I headed to the only place that I could think of. The old abandoned barn that we used to party at in high school. One of the last places that I ever wanted to go again, but the only secluded spot that I knew of.
Ares
This woman hit me with her car. I was already hurt and was ready to rip out her throat when I looked up into her eyes. My wolf yelled at me “MATE!” but I was so confused. She could not possibly be my mate, she is a vampire. But I needed out of here. I was being hunted when she hit me and if I did not move quick they would find me. I padded to her car urging her in to drive… and then regretting it. She drove like a mad woman! Here we are on back dirt roads and she is driving like it is Nascar!
We pull up to an old barn, I can smell the apprehension and fear that she has. “No choice.” She mumbles as we get out of the car and head to the barn. She sits on one of the old couches that have obviously been used for kids to hang out during past parties. I sit in front of her, eyes glued and waiting. I am not sure for what.
“I hate this place.” She says with a saddened tone. “I am not sure why but I want to share everything with you… I was not super popular in high school but not an outcast either. I had a popular boyfriend for a while. Warren was amazing at everything. I think most people were shocked when he wanted to date me. His family are royals and I was a nobody, so it was like a Cinderella story. One night he brought me here, I was seventeen, I was almost ready to give in to him and I thought he was making the extra effort, you know like some guys do?” she said in a dazed state. “But we got here and when his candles and picnic in the barn failed to get me out of my pants… I guess he decided he did not need to wait anymore… I told him no, I screamed, I cried. But he did what he wanted anyway.
I started to shift back to human form. How dare some ass hurt what is mine?! Take what is mine?! My MATE!
She looked up shock on her face. At first I thought it was because of my transformation. But I saw her eyes glued to my c**k. It was hard and standing ready for her to use as she wanted. And I wanted her.
“It’s okay. I am your mate. I will not hurt you. I will protect you.”
She quickly turned and yelled, “There is a blanket on the backseat of my car that you can cover yourself with.” I walked to the car filled with concern, dread, and confusion.
